Role Overview
This position is responsible for providing specialised support to deliver responsive library collections in physical and digital formats, ensuring a high-quality library and information service that meets the needs of our community. This role is involved in the completion of more complex collection requests or enquiries and provides an escalation point and support for library staff.
Essential Knowledge & Skills:
- A tertiary qualification in Library and Information Sciences (or ability and commitment to obtain) and eligibility for Library Technician membership of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA). Consideration will be given to applicants with tertiary qualifications in a related discipline.
- Proven ability to assist with the development, maintenance, evaluation of library collections that reflect community needs, diversity and collection development policy and procedures.
- Sound understanding of cataloguing standards and classification systems, with the ability to maintain accurate bibliographic records to ensure resources are easily discoverable.
- Demonstrated experience with budget and library management systems to maintain accurate collection data, resolve access or cataloguing issues, and contribute to improvements in discovery and workflow processes.
- Strong customer service skills, including engaging with the community, providing readers' advice, technology assistance, and promoting and supporting access to library resources and services.
- Ability to remain resilient and professional in busy public-facing environments, demonstrate effective communication skills and manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to manage large groups of customers when delivering library programs including children's literacy activities, digital literacy training and workshops as required.
- Queensland 'C' Class driver's licence or above that is current and maintained.
- Working with Children Check – Blue Card or ability to obtain a Blue Card.
Essential Requirements:
- Support the selection, maintenance and evaluation of physical and digital library collections that reflect community interests and diversity, in accordance with collection policies and procedures.
- Create, maintain, and enhance bibliographic records and metadata to ensure accurate cataloguing and optimal discoverability of library resources across the library management system.
- Assist with the selection, ordering, receiving, processing and withdrawal of library materials, ensuring timely access to resources and efficient collection management.
- Work collaboratively with library service teams and stakeholders to improve access to collections, respond to resource-related enquiries, and support initiatives that enhance community engagement with library resources.
- Ensure that the community receives a positive customer service experience at our libraries, undertaking customer service duties as rostered, readers' advice, technology help, promotional activities and assisting customers to use the library.
- Promote and deliver a range of programs to fulfil the community's needs including children's activities, technology sessions and community workshops.
- Participate in review of library processes and procedures to ensure a continuous improvement focus on collection development.
