We are seeking a talented individual to join our Controllership team at Marsh McLennan. This role can be based in Sydney. This is a hybrid role that has a requirement of working at least three days a week in the office.

Tax Reporting Manager
The Tax Reporting Manager is responsible for the accurate and timely production of tax related financial information and returns for the business units of the Pacific region, external tax agents and tax authorities and ensuring filing requirements are met. This includes but not limited to financial statement tax calculations and disclosures, direct and indirect taxes, revenue authority reviews/audits, key projects and merger & acquisition transactions.

We will count on you for:

  • Management of local income tax and indirect tax returns in accordance with local tax regulations (including, but not limited to income tax, GST/VAT, FBT, levies/ duties, and withholding taxes, for Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Papua New Guinea).
  • Management and preparation of tax calculations, schedules and packages as required by US GAAP.
  • Management and preparation of the year end consolidated and company statutory accounts and related note disclosures in accordance with relevant accounting standards.
  • Management and preparation of tax related disclosures for the year end consolidated statutory accounts in accordance with relevant accounting standards.
  • Management and production of monthly, quarterly and annual management financial information in accordance with accounting standards, MMC accounting policies and timetable. Key duties include review of month end journals and balance sheet reconciliations for all tax accounts, together with the provision of account movement commentary.
  • Leading and building effective working relationships with on-shore and off-shore team responsible for preparation of tax reporting information.
  • Documenting tax treatment and position of material items.
  • Provision of general tax advice and support on routine tax matters. Undertake technical research and analysis to assist MMC Group Tax with the provision of advice and support on more complex and non-routine tax matters.
  • Ownership of online tax reporting systems and Revenue Authority accounts including liaising with the local tax offices in relation to routine matters, including account queries, payments and lodgement of returns.
  • Completion of transfer pricing calculations and documentation.
  • Ensuring compliance with group international transfer pricing guidelines for new and existing arrangements.
  • Supporting MMC Group Tax on design and implementation of tax governance framework, tax reporting and compliance operating model and ensuring and demonstrating robust processes are in place on tax accounting and reporting activities.
  • Recommendations for and implementation of process improvements including relevant documentation.
  • Local tax specialist input for systems implementations and upgrades impacting tax reporting or compliance.
  • Liaising with external tax advisors including planning and ensuring lodgement requirements are met.
  • Providing timely and accurate tax related financial information to other stakeholders such as MMC Group Tax.

What you need to have:

  • 10+ years' experience in a Tax Compliance and Reporting role
  • Enjoys working with teams and has a hands-on mindset to getting the job done
  • Experience in Australian tax compliance, tax accounting and tax reporting
  • Experience with a Big 4 or mid-tier professional services firm and in a large commercial corporate tax role preferred
  • Knowledge of Australian and New Zealand direct and indirect taxes preferred
  • Knowledge of US taxes ideal, but not essential
  • Experience in the preparation of tax reporting for statutory financial statements
  • Knowledge in US GAAP and IFRS reporting
  • Relevant experience in managing a diverse set of stakeholders, including senior management
  • Management of process documentation and driving continuous improvement initiatives
  • Leading, collaborating with, and providing training to an offshore team
  • Outstanding organizational skills and the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and project teams assuming accountability and responsibility for them
  • Engaging proactively, taking responsibility, and actively participating
  • Strong numeric / analytical / problem solving skills
  • Strong time management skills – multiple tasking
