Your new role

As a Senior Environmental Health Officer, you will lead investigations and compliance activities on complex public and environmental health matters. You'll mentor team members, provide specialist advice, and drive improvements in processes and legislation compliance. Key responsibilities include:

  • Supervising and mentoring the Environmental Health Assistant and supporting team development.
  • Investigating and resolving escalated public and environmental health issues.
  • Monitoring food businesses, public buildings, events, and health premises for compliance.
  • Leading health promotion initiatives and contributing to mosquito management strategies.
  • Preparing prosecution briefs and attending court when required.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Tertiary qualification in Environmental Health or equivalent approved by the Chief Health Officer.
  • Eligibility to be gazetted as an Authorised Person under the Environmental Protection Act
  • Strong knowledge of relevant legislation including the Public Health Act 2016, Food Act 2008, and Environmental Protection Act
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Local Government systems (SafetyCulture and TechnologyOne desirable).
  • Supervisory experience and mosquito management knowledge are desirable.
