About the opportunity
Reporting directly to the Technical Consulting Team Leader, the Technical Consultant is responsible for managing any assigned Ascender Pay (aPay) implementation and version upgrade projects plus adhoc aPay consulting as required.
Consult to external clients, using previous development experience and technical skills to design and deliver quality payroll system-related projects meeting established milestones and targeted completion dates.
What you'll get to do
- Provide application technical consulting services to clients based on their business needs.
- Identify solutions through understanding client requirements and researching the options available in our products.
- Conduct requirements gathering, making recommendations to contribute to successful client outcomes.
- Develop solution designs and technical specifications to address client requirements.
- Develop customizations and enhancements of the aPay product based on approved solution designs/technical specifications.
- Ensure integrity of data and adequate system performance for the developed solution, plan and conduct unit testing.
- Develop/update project management documentation and reporting in relation to all assignments.
- Communicate with customers in a timely and professional manner, including management and escalation of client issues as appropriate.
- Build good client relationships, be accessible and communicate regularly.
- Actively manage service delivery and internal and external stakeholder communication, identifying and escalating risks where appropriate.
- Work directly with third party vendors where required to provide total solutions to clients
- Develop in-depth knowledge of aPay and deliver aPay education as required.
- Maintain and enhance application knowledge by attending formal training, or self-paced materials.
- Look to add value and increase the efficiency of clients over and above assigned tasks
- Proactive assessment of emerging trends and technologies
- Providing technical direction to clients and project stakeholders
- Provide mentoring of more junior members of the Technical Consulting team
- Provide Performance tuning advice for complex SQL queries
Skills and experience we value
- Oracle PL/SQL Development/Design experience required, with:
- Oracle Forms and Reports
- Oracle BI Publisher experience an advantage but not required.
- Web development experience (JavaScript, HTML, CSS, XML, Rest API) an advantage but not required.
- Linux scripting experience is desirable.
- System integration experiences an advantage.
- At least 5 years' experience with software design and implementation, including document writing experience.
- Relevant tertiary qualification.
- Excellent analytical skills, creative and critical thinking with the ability to make decisions on the job to achieve project outcomes.
- Excellent communication skills (high level of written and verbal English) with experience consulting to external clients.
- Ability to travel to and work at client site if required; some interstate or overseas travel may be required at times.
- Organized and able to schedule and prioritize time with the ability to work under pressure and deliver to project deadlines.
- Ability to work autonomously or as part of a project team.
- Experience with payroll or related HR systems an advantage; experience with Ascender Pay desirable but training will be provided.
- Capability to lead both internal and client teams
- Full project life cycle exposure
