The Role
  • Perform the duties of a Senior Medical Officer (Intensive Care) at Bundaberg Hospital, participating in the Staff Specialist roster, including after-hours on-call and weekends.
  • Ensure collegiate, multidisciplinary coordination of patient care within a closed-collaborative model of Intensive Care Services at Bundaberg Hospital.
  • When rostered as the Intensivist on duty for the week, lead comprehensive clinical ward rounds, twice daily, assessing all patients including admissions, transfers and discharges.
  • Provide expert clinical services including patient assessments, diagnostic workup, medical and procedural treatments within a defined and credentialed scope of practice.
  • Day-to-day clinical supervision and bed side teaching of registrars, principal house officers and junior medical staff, including those undertaking clinical procedures.
  • Provide specialist consultation and solutions to expedite care of patients referred to the Intensive Care Service, from both internal and external referral sources.
  • Contribute to comprehensive patient care of a high quality, by participation in case planning, which includes appropriate pre-admission planning, in-hospital care and discharge planning.
  • Support the Intensive Care outreach service in the Bundaberg Hospital and maintain oversight and follow-up as required, of outreach patients on the wards, for at least 48 hours following ICU referral or discharge.
  • Provide supervision and procedural assistance for elective cardioversions, emergency trans-venous pacing, PICC line and dialysis catheter insertion service for patients in Bundaberg Hospital.
