About the Role

We're looking for a
junior full stack developer
who's passionate about coding, hungry to learn, and excited by the potential of AI and automation.

You don't need deep AI experience, just strong programming skills, curiosity, and a willingness to experiment with new tools. You'll work closely with our
AI Agent Implementation Lead
to build and improve applications that make businesses smarter and more efficient.

You'll join a small, innovative technical team building the next generation of AI-powered business tools. You'll help real companies automate repetitive work, experiment with emerging AI APIs, and bring practical ideas to life, all while levelling up your full-stack skills in a supportive environment.

What You'll Be Doing

• Design, build, test and maintain web applications and automation tools in collaboration with the AI Agent Implementation Lead.
• Develop front-end components and implement back-end APIs using modern frameworks (React, , or Python).
• Integrate AI APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Relevance AI, etc.) into simple, real-world workflows.
• Apply AI-assisted software engineering practices — using AI coding copilots, automated documentation, and testing tools to enhance productivity and code quality.
• Support
  internal automation projects and
  prototype
  tools that streamline operations for SMEs.
• Document, test, and review
  code in GitHub, contributing to continuous improvement.
• Troubleshoot and maintain
  existing systems while learning new frameworks and techniques.

Tech Stack & Tools

You don't need to know everything — we'll help you learn. Familiarity or willingness to learn these is a plus:

• Frontend:
  React, TypeScript, HTML, CSS
• Backend:

  PostgreSQL, Firebase Firestore, or other relational/NoSQL databases
• AI Tools:
  OpenAI API, Anthropic Claude, Relevance AI, Perplexity
• Automation:
  N8N, Zapier, Make

  Docker, GitHub Actions, AWS or GCP

What We're Looking For

• Experience (commercial or personal projects) developing full-stack web applications.
• Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript or Python.
• Understanding of REST APIs, responsive UI design, and Git-based workflows.
• Willingness to learn and experiment with AI APIs and automation platforms.
• Positive, proactive attitude and willingness to take ownership of projects.

Nice to Have:

• Hands-on experience with tools like LangChain, n8n, or Zapier.
• Familiarity with cloud services (AWS/GCP) or CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience in early-stage/start-up environments.

You'll be mentored by the AI Agent Implementation Lead and get hands-on exposure to:

• Scalable full-stack application development
• Working directly with SMEs to see how your work creates measurable impact

Over time, you'll develop the skills to lead your own AI implementation projects within SMEC AI's growing technical team.

Salary Range:
$80,000–$110,000 AUD (inclusive of superannuation)
