Job Summary
Product Designer
BuildPass
Full-time
In-Person / Hybrid Opportunities | Richmond, Australia
About BuildPass
At BuildPass, we're building the world's smartest operating system for construction to drive safer, more efficient job sites. AI is at the core of our mission to digitise one of the world's largest and least tech-enabled industries. After raising a AUD$7.5M Seed in 2024, we're growing ~10% month over month.
Our team comes from diverse backgrounds and skill sets. We don't expect you to have stepped onto a construction site. What matters most is curiosity, ambition, and a bias for action.
About The Role
We're hiring a Product Designer to lead end-to-end product design and ship production-ready experiences, working closely with engineering or using AI tooling to build it yourself.
This role requires strong UX thinking, hands-on execution, awareness of best-in-class interaction patterns, and the ability to drive projects independently from concept to launch.
BuildPass is an operating system connecting diverse users across APAC and North America; from back-office admins managing complex workflows to field workers needing simple, offline-ready tools. You'll design experiences that span admin experiences, mobile forms, and AI-led interfaces that work seamlessly together. Your first 6 months will be immersing yourself in construction to understand how it all connects.
Reporting to one of our Product Leads, you'll work in a global collaborative environment with autonomy to drive your work and support from founders, engineers, and go-to-market teams across APAC and North America.
You'll bring your craft; we'll empower you with domain knowledge to solve interesting problems for our broad audience.
What You'll Do
- Lead end-to-end product design: identify user problems through research, explore and iterate solutions, and deliver alongside engineering from concept to launch
- Collaborate daily with engineers: to solve design and technical challenges in real-time, understanding constraints and implementation realities
- Design high-quality interfaces: for BuildPass's web and mobile experiences with obsessive attention to detail, leveraging AI prototyping tools (Claude, Cursor, V0, Figma AI)
- Evolve our design language: by creating new patterns, components, interaction models, and information architecture for complex multi-role platforms
- Contribute to feature prioritisation and roadmap planning: by synthesising day-to-day insights from customers and cross-functional teams into strategic, big-picture opportunities
- Apply systems thinking and pragmatic judgment: design scalable patterns that fit multiple use cases, balance customer needs with technical constraints, and know when to move fast vs. when to push for higher quality
- Champion our customers: dig through feedback, have direct conversations to identify high-impact problems, and use compelling storytelling to align cross-functional teams behind validated solutions
- Challenge requirements with critical thinking: push back on initial ideas and elevate customer requests into better solutions
- Once in your groove, lead design exploration into new market opportunities as we expand
What You'll Bring
- 3–5 years of designing products with demonstrated ability to lead projects independently from concept to delivery
- Strong UX and systems thinking: deep understanding of user research, information architecture, and interaction design; proven ability to design scalable patterns that work across use cases, not just one-off solutions
- Exceptional craft and attention to detail: ability to deliver polished, production-quality UI/UX that serves as a competitive differentiator
- Pragmatic judgment and critical thinking: able to balance trade-offs based on time, constraints, and customer context; challenge requirements, identify edge cases, and apply just enough process
- Engineering collaboration skills: comfortable working closely with engineers, solving problems in the moment, and understanding technical constraints
- Product sense: able to contribute meaningfully to roadmap discussions by synthesising customer feedback, cross-functional insights, and business goals
- AI proficiency: recent hands-on experience using AI tools to accelerate design and prototyping
- Clear communication: able to articulate rationale, document decisions, and influence cross-functional teams
- Attitude to flex: skills and/or interest that blend product design, product management, and front-end development - we don't expect you to do it all well, but we do expect the willingness to learn and adapt as roles converge in the age of AI
