Your key areas of expertise may include:

  • Working knowledge of cloud-based GIS solutions and experience in developing GIS applications or workflows using programming languages (e.g., Python, JavaScript) is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard geospatial software (e.g. ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online/Enterprise, QGIS, FME).
  • Experienced in semi-automatic and automatic manipulation of geospatial datasets including but not limited to satellite imagery, LiDAR data and vector datasets.

Key responsibilities & duties

  • Geospatial Analysis: Conduct geospatial analysis on a range of data types to support environmental projects, including carbon sequestration, land conservation, and ecosystem monitoring.
  • Competency with Geospatial Technologies such as Esri's GIS mapping software, QGIS, FME, GeoServer, and managing both spatial and non-spatial databases.
  • Software Engineering: Ability to develop and maintain systems using appropriate language/tools, including but not limited to SQL, Python, and R.
  • Data analysis: Proficiency in a wide array of inferential and predictive statistical techniques to derive meaningful insights from both geospatial and non-spatial data.

The role will include key responsibilities:

  • Conducting statistical and spatial modelling using statistical methods and remote sensing techniques. This will include integration and calibration of in-field data.
  • Writing scripts and creating Excel calculators to automate processes.
  • Working within the context of carbon, vegetation and/or biodiversity projects and working knowledge of associated spatial products, including:
  • spatial modelling and analysis (vector and raster) in ArcGIS,
  • carbon project modelling in FullCAM, and
  • data analysis, statistics, and spatial modelling in R or other suitable coding-based software.
  • All stages of analysis required to deliver HIR (and future methods) and tree planting projects including remote sensing, GIS and abatement calculations.
  • Statistical analysis and modelling to support soil carbon projects
  • Researching and implementing solutions to mathematical/statistical problems to support large-scale data collection activities, data analysis, data management.
  • Manage and implement in-house databases to best practice, and train in-house users in database best-practice. This will include developing coding to manage calculations within these databases to undertake data transformations.
  • Follow IA processes for project management and quality assurance, delivery of technical work within timeline, budget and quality requirements. Adhere to company procedures and provide feedback to improve or expand the effectiveness of company procedures.

Academic qualifications, work experience and skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Geography, Geomatics, Computer Science, or a related field; relevant certifications
  • Experience in an Agri-environmental, and/or the Emissions Reduction Fund (ERF) sectors, or consulting context, will be highly regarded. Desire to make a difference in the agricultural industry.
  • Advanced skills in IT systems management, Microsoft 365 suite, specifically Excel, Word, and familiarity with using Sharepoint and Teams and project management applications is highly regarded.
  • Proven ability to be self-sufficient, prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Have excellent written as well as verbal communication skills and build strong relationships with peers and customers. The ability to communicate and connect with farmers/agricultural clients is highly beneficial.
  • Fluency in a language other than English for the markets (Europe, South America) in which we operate will be an advantage.
  • A can-do attitude with a proactive and motivated approach to work, and a solution-focused approach to problem-solving.
  • A team player who can learn on the job and self-educate, who enjoys new challenges and is self-motivated and able to work on tasks to completion in a timely manner to high quality.
