With Australian expatriate teachers working with Papua New Guinean National teachers and assistants, the Australian Curriculum is taught from Prep to Grade 6. About the Opportunity
NBPOL has the exciting opportunity for two full-time
Teachers
to join us in
Papua New Guinea
:
- Special Education Teacher
– New Britain International School (NBIS), Kimbe, West New Britain - Primary School Teacher
– Ramu International Primary School (RIPS), Ramu (approx. 2.5–3 hours from Lae, Morobe Province)
These roles, reporting directly to their respective School Principals, are accountable for delivering high-quality education based on the Australian Curriculum. You'll ensure that all students are supervised in a safe learning environment that meets the approved curricula and mission of the school.
More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Establishing and promoting high standards and expectations for all students and staff for academic performance and behaviour
- Effectively delivering the Australian Curriculum and enhancing the academic skills and knowledge of students
- Preparing programs effectively and supporting national staff with programming as required
- Taking responsibility for student well-being
- Communicating with parents/guardians on student progress
- Contributing to the school and community through extracurricular offerings (e.g. music, dance, sport)
Work hours are from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm, with classes running from 8:00 am to 2:30 pm. This structured timetable supports a healthy work-life balance and provides ample time for preparation and planning.
These roles come with a 2-year minimum contract, subject to a 6-month probation period.
About You
To qualify, you will need
internationally recognised teaching qualifications and current registration
in Australia, New Zealand, or another recognised country. A minimum of
3 years of full-time teaching experience
in an Australian or International school setting will also be essential.
The following skills and background will be highly valued:
- M.Ed Leadership (highly desired but not essential) and/or Bachelor of Education
- Sound to excellent understanding of the Australian Curriculum
- Extensive knowledge of programming and assessment practices at an international standard
- Must demonstrate exceptional written and oral language
- Upper primary or special education experience
- Cultural sensitivity and good social skills
Additionally, you must possess, or have the ability to obtain, the following:
- Current Working with Children Clearance
- Current Criminal History Check
