What is the role?
Are you a first, second- or third-year law student, or a person with paralegal experience looking for casual paralegal work and want to work for a dynamic, fast paced and leading national and international organisation?
The AFP-led Criminal Assets Confiscation Taskforce adopts a coordinated and proactive approach to the confiscation of assets related to Commonwealth crime. It brings together expertise in investigations, litigation, intelligence, forensic accounting and other specialist resources and representatives from key partner agencies including the Australian Taxation Office (ATO), Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC), Australian Border Force (ABF) and Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (AUSTRAC). The main aim of the taskforce is to enhance the identification of criminal assets and benefits derived from crime, and to pursue their confiscation.
Applications are invited from suitably qualified people who are interested in an appointment to the AFP. Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to the core values of the AFP, and their application must address selection criteria and the relevant work level standards.

What will you do?
The Criminal Assets Litigation Team has casual work opportunities for Paralegals in Sydney, New South Wales. In this role, you will support a team of litigators who conduct civil litigation under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 (Cth) and Mutual Assistance in Criminal Matters Act 1987 (Cth).
Subject to business needs, work hours will vary and duties may include the following:
- Perform general administration and file maintenance, including scanning, printing and filing, file opening and closing and data entry
- Provide assistance with preparing and drafting court documents
- Conduct legal research, information retrieval, and project work;
- Prepare briefs to counsel; and
- Undertake litigation searches and registrations on data bases including PPSR.
Essential Requirements
- You must be an Australian Citizen at the time of application
- The ability to obtain a Negative Vetting Level 1 (Secret) security clearance
- Excellent team orientation and a positive attitude
- Effective time management skills and outcomes focus to meet assigned deadlines
- Good oral and written communication skills
- The professional maturity to work in a high pressure and high security environment
- Pass the AFP Employment Suitability Questionnaire (ESQ) including passing initial and periodic drug tests
Desirable Requirements
- First, second- or third-year law student (or equivalent if studying part-time);
- Driver's licence.
