South Western Sydney Local Health District (SWSLHD) is seeking a dynamic and experienced leader to manage our Specialist Intellectual Disability Team. This is a unique opportunity to shape district-wide models of care for children and adults, support the sustainability of the NDIS, and lead outreach services to Southern NSW.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a multidisciplinary team delivering integrated, evidence-based care.
  • Oversee the Child Developmental Assessment Service and outreach programs.
  • Build capacity in mainstream health services to better support people with intellectual disabilities.
  • Drive strategic planning, workforce development, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Ensure services meet performance indicators and quality standards

What You'll be Doing

The manager of the Specialist Intellectual Disability Team will provide district wide leadership in child and adult intellectual disability models of care, including the sustainability of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). This role provides senior operational management to the Specialist Intellectual Disability Team to ensure delivery of integrated and effective service delivery models of care and oversees the implementation and ongoing management of the Child Developmental Assessment Service models of care within SWSLHD.

The Manager will lead the Specialist Intellectual Disability Health team to develop an outreach service to SNSWLHD that may include clinics with local clinicians conducting comprehensive health assessments, joint client consultations by telehealth and skills training with local staff.

The manager will lead and oversee the teams ability to build skills, experience and confidence of mainstream health staff to meet the health needs of people with intellectual disabilities whilst maintaining an evidence based clinical model of care for clients and their families/carers.

SWSLHD Primary & Community Health provides a comprehensive range of community-based services designed to improve and maintain the health and wellbeing of individuals and communities across South Western Sydney.

These services include prevention, early intervention, assessment, acute and post-acute treatment, health maintenance, and continuing care. The team supports diverse populations, offering specialised programs for children, young people, older adults, and at-risk communities.

With over 800 dedicated staff, including Aboriginal Health Workers, nurses, doctors, and allied health professionals, the service ensures high-quality care close to where people live.

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in health related discipline and/or relevant experience working with people with an intellectual disability/developmental disability.
  • Proven experience in and demonstrated sound achievement and leadership at a management level in a large and complex organisation.
  • Excellent negotiation, decision making and influencing skills including the ability to interact constructively and collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders, through all organisational levels.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing, planning and development of services within an evidence based framework and quality process.
  • Demonstrated high level written and oral communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills.
