About Your Role:
UGL is seeking a dynamic and experienced Production & Planning Manager to lead operations at our Spotswood Maintenance Centre, ensuring the safe, efficient, and timely maintenance of locomotives.
This is a pivotal leadership role focused on driving performance, safety, and continuous improvement across production and testing activities. You will be required to work closely with internal stakeholders including Operations Support, PST, Procurement, and Warehouse teams, while fostering a positive team culture focused on customer delivery and continuous improvement.
Reporting to the Operations Manager – VIC, this role plays a pivotal part in site leadership as well as optimising workflows, implementing lean manufacturing principles, and visually managing production status to meet high-performance objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Health, Safety & Environment
- Champion a culture of safety across all production and testing activities.
Production Management:
- Lead the production and planning team to deliver on-time locomotive maintenance aligned with detailed schedules.
- Coordinate reactive maintenance with Fleet Performance to maximise availability and reliability.
- Manage material flow and sub-assemblies to minimise delays and bottlenecks.
- Oversee labour and facility allocation to meet production targets efficiently.
- Monitor progress, resolve issues, and optimise workflow for improved throughput.
- Improve visual management tools to track progress and communicate effectively.
- Participate and lead leadership meetings to align production with business goals.
Team Leadership:
- Provide strong leadership, supervision and guidance to the production and planning team.
- Foster open communication and high morale to support site goals
About You:
Education
- Diploma, certification, and/or tertiary education in a relevant field is highly desirable.
Experience
- Proven experience in a Production Management role, ideally within a maintenance or engineering environment.
- Strong leadership, communication and people skills, including negotiation and influencing capabilities.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex production and maintenance processes, delivering on time and within budget.
- Excellent knowledge of production, lean manufacturing, and quality control principles
