The Volunteer Role: Associate Program Director (unpaid)

Up to 8 volunteer leads across Marketing, Events, Participant Engagement, Mentor Matching, and Operations
This is a significant volunteer commitment for an experienced, passionate leader. Reporting directly to the Program Director, the Associate Director (2IC) is the operational right hand of the mentor(SHE:) program -ensuring strategy and delivery stay on track across all streams.
You'll provide leadership across volunteer teams, oversee program milestones, and step in as Acting Program Director when needed. You'll also represent mentor(SHE:) at events and across social media. This is a hands-on, high-impact volunteer role suited to an experienced professional passionate about gender-diverse leadership and mentoring in tech.
What You'll Be Doing (Your Impact)
You'll be the operational engine, ensuring our ambitious vision becomes a reality. Your key contributions will include:
- Program Leadership:
Support the Program Director in delivering the full mentor(SHE:) program cycle — from planning and execution to reporting, budget tracking, and continuous improvement. - Volunteer Management:
Lead and mentor all program volunteer stream leads to deliver their strategic objectives — including Marketing, Events, Participant Engagement, Mentor/Mentee Matching, and Registrations. - Cross-Team Coordination:
Facilitate meetings, track deliverables, and ensure clear communication across Slack and all project systems.
Stakeholder Engagement:
Engage, nurture, and maintain relationships with sponsors and partners alongside the Program Director; represent the program within the community.
- Program Oversight:
Track progress against timelines and budgets, identify risks and mitigations, and help shape strategic recommendations for the wider Women 4 STEM leadership team. - Ambassadorship:
Promote mentor(SHE:) through your networks and social media, amplifying Women 4 STEM's mission and impact.
Who You Are (Capabilities & Values)
- A proactive, resilient, and organised leader who loves turning ideas into action.
- Experienced in program or project management, preferably with exposure to mentoring, events, or professional development programs.
- Bonus: Previous experience serving on a board or steering committee is advantageous but not essential.
- Confident leading remote teams, juggling competing priorities, and keeping operations running smoothly.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills — able to connect with sponsors, mentors, and participants.
- Passionate about gender equality, leadership, and progression in tech.
Commitment
- Approximately 8–12 hours per week (flexible), with peaks during mentor intake and major program events.
- Melbourne-based preferred, but remote volunteers are welcome.
- The 2026 mentor(SHE:) cycle runs from February to November, with ongoing engagement year-round for planning and handover.
