The Opportunity
We are looking for a talented and innovative Method Development Scientist to join our Immunobiology team in Adelaide. This role is pivotal in providing high-level analytical and scientific support, whilst driving forward our Immunobiology Laboratory's capabilities.
What You'll Do
As Method Development Scientist - IB, you will lead the development and transfer of complex flow cytometry, PCR and cell-based assays. Key responsibilities include:
- Autonomous development and transfer of complex assays using a variety of techniques, examples of which are flow cytometry, PCR, cell-based assays (cell lines and primary cells/PBMCs) and functional assays
- Communicate with external stakeholders (i.e. clients) on project status and scientific issues
- Communicate with internal stakeholders (i.e. Study Directors, operational groups) on project status and timelines
- Liaise with operational groups to ensure smooth transition of methods into validation
- Lead troubleshooting and technical investigations of analytical methods
- Author and/or review of Analytical Laboratory Methods (ALMs)
- Scientific review of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Providing method development support and technical input for the Immunobiology department
- Line management of junior staff, including junior R&D staff, Analysts, and Laboratory Support Officers as appropriate
- Training of Immunobiology staff as appropriate
What we're looking for
- PhD degree in the appropriate discipline (strongly preferred)
- Minimum 2 years' experience of working in an analytical laboratory (Clinical Research Organisation experience highly desirable)
- Minimum 5 years' experience in analytical method development in PCR, Flow cytometry and/or cell biology
- Demonstrated problem solving and scientific data interpretation abilities
- Demonstrated experience in communicating with clients on high level science issues
- High level of written and verbal communication skills
- Proven ability to deliver tasks on time and with a high degree of accuracy
- Strong attention to detail
- Proven ability to set priorities, analyse problems, formulate clear and effective solutions and coordinate several tasks simultaneously
- Willingness to work in and be supportive of a positive and dynamic team culture
- Demonstrated initiative, trust and reliability and the ability to work unsupervised
