C.D. Dodd Scrap Metal Recyclers is seeking an experienced Oxy Cutter to join our team at the Forrestfield scrap yard. The successful applicant will be responsible for safely cutting, processing, and preparing ferrous metal materials for recycling and transport.

Key Responsibilities:

• Operate oxy cutting equipment to cut and size various types of scrap metal including heavy gauge steel, structural beams, tanks, and machinery.
• Identify, separate, and prepare metals according to material type and recycling requirements.
• Maintain a clean, organised, and safe work area in compliance with company and site safety standards.
• Perform pre-start checks and basic maintenance on cutting equipment and tools.
• Assist with loading and unloading of scrap materials using yard equipment (excavators, forklifts, magnets, or grapples as required).
• Follow all company procedures, including lockout/tagout, hot work permits, and PPE requirements.
• Support general yard duties and work collaboratively with operators, truck drivers, and supervisors.
• Skills & Experience
• Proven experience in oxy cutting, ideally in a scrap or demolition environment.
• Strong understanding of safe hot work practices and fire prevention measures.
• Physically fit and capable of working outdoors in hot, dusty, and heavy industrial conditions.
• Ability to identify different grades of steel and non-ferrous metals.
• Forklift or telehandler licence (desirable but not essential).
• Commitment to workplace safety and team collaboration.

Requirements:

• Valid driver's licence (C Class minimum).
• Ability to pass a pre-employment medical and drug & alcohol screening.
• Willingness to work in a high-risk environment with strict safety standards.
• Availability for occasional overtime or weekend work if required.
