Melbourne, Victoria, Australia nbn® Australia Full time $80,000 - $120,000 per year

An exciting opportunity has presented itself to join the Melbourne Field Services team as a Field Engineer working on the nbn network.

The Field Services (FS) Team within Chief Operations Business Unit, provides Field Workforce capabilities across all technologies for, Service Activation, Service Assurance, Network Assurance, Network Maintenance, Customer Complaints linked with Network faults and Quality Inspection.

A bit about your role

Based in Melbourne, your new role as a Field Engineer will focus on representing nbn's Field Services team in all field-based assurance and build activities specifically related to the HFC network. You will be responsible for supporting HFC network integration, augmentation, and upgrades, as well as conducting field audits and ensuring connect quality and Delivery Partner performance across services linked to the HFC infrastructure.

This role demands high-level field support, which may include travel, scheduled after-hours work, and participation in an on-call roster to respond to urgent HFC-related escalations and service issues.

Role expectations

This role involves field management and network assurance across nbn's passive and active infrastructure, with a strong emphasis on the HFC (Hybrid Fibre-Coaxial) network. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing assurance activities and executing network element upgrades, particularly within the HFC domain.

The role demands on-site technical support, resolution of escalations, and a deep understanding of HFC architecture, RF fundamentals and operations. Familiarity with FTTP technologies is beneficial, but a robust grasp of HFC systems is essential to ensure effective network performance and upgrade delivery.

A bit about you

The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in maintaining and restoring HFC infrastructure, with hands-on experience in field-based assurance and fault resolution. Expertise in FTTx technologies such as FTTP is advantageous, but a deep understanding of HFC architecture and operations is essential particularly building/commissioning outside plant network equipment ie: Nodes, Amps and passive devices. Familiarity with network assurance protocols across technologies like Ethernet, DWDM, and GPON is beneficial.

You'll be a natural problem solver with a methodical approach to troubleshooting and escalation management. The role requires a quick learner who can adapt to evolving technologies and field conditions. Flexibility, resilience under pressure, and the ability to manage competing priorities are key traits. You'll also be a highly organised team player who brings a constructive mindset and a proactive approach to challenges and capable of thriving in a dynamic and fast-paced field environment.
