The General Counsel (AU) will provide legal and regulatory advice to ensure that KuCoin's products and services in Australia are compliant per local regulations. The General Counsel (AU) should be able to interface externally with regulators to safeguard KuCoin from legal liabilities and regulatory issues in Australia. It is also expected for the General Counsel (AU) to internalize commercial and corporate related tasks. Focus areas include Commercial and Regulatory.
Responsibilities
- Overseeing the upkeep and maintenance of regulated entities in Australia, alongside the Compliance Officer and Responsible Manager(s)
- Executing business and legal (including regulatory) decisions and strategies with the objective of regional expansion in Oceania and beyond
- Leading license applications, post-licensing related matters and acquisitions of regulated entities or otherwise
- Working with cross-functional teams across product, business, strategy and more
- Monitoring regulatory and legal developments in Oceania
- Liaising with external counsels and other professional advisers
- Performing other ad-hoc corporate legal related duties in alignment with strategic business plans
- Collaborating with the Group legal team on Group-level assignments
- Contributing to knowledge sharing and building within the team
Requirements
- Qualified solicitor with at least 5 years PQE
- Direct experience in regulatory matters relating to AFSL
- Self-motivated and with a sense of ownership towards job responsibilities, including the ability to manage tasks assigned independently, and deliver balanced legal advice and quality work
- Able to multitask effectively, with strong organizational skills
- Proactive, pleasant team player, with sharp business acumen, paired with exceptional communication skills and the ability to be flexible and adaptable in a fast-paced environment
- Detail-oriented with a keen awareness of legal issues in regulatory and commercial and corporate matters
- Dynamic personality, able to be flexible and adaptable in a fast past environment
Bonus Traits
- Excellent command of written and spoken English and another Asian language, preferably with fluency in Mandarin Chinese
- Experience working in private practice, in-house, or at a government/regulatory agency, with exposure to financial regulatory matters and preferably related matters
- Experience in providing legal advice concerning regulated products (such as financial instruments and payment services)
- A strong understanding of the developing issues and products in the areas of fintech, especially in Australia
