We're Hiring – Veterinarians Across Queensland
There are careers, and then there are callings. At RSPCA Queensland, we see animals at their most vulnerable – the frightened, the forgotten, the brave. Our veterinarians are the steady hands and compassionate hearts behind every recovery, every second chance, every happy ending, and sometimes, the peaceful goodbyes.
This role calls for both skill and soul. It asks for resilience, teamwork, and a deep belief in the difference one person can make. In return, it offers something few careers can – purpose, perspective, and the chance to create genuine, meaningful change every single day.
Current Opportunities
We're currently seeking experienced and passionate Veterinarians for our Wacol (Brisbane) Domestic Animal Hospital & Shelter.
We have 2x Temporary Part-Time roles available, plus 1x Temporary Casual role (ideal for someone with equine experience).
What You'll Do
In this role, you will:
- Deliver high-quality medical and surgical care to animals presented through our hospital, Inspectorate, and community programs.
- Maintain accurate and detailed medical records for all patients, ensuring compliance with welfare legislation and RSPCA policies.
- Diagnose, treat, and manage disease control and herd health across shelter and hospital populations.
- Provide clinical leadership and mentorship to veterinary nurses, students, and support staff.
- Assess and provide expert opinions or court evidence for animals involved in cruelty or neglect cases.
- Perform a variety of surgical procedures, including high-volume desexing, diagnostics, and emergency care.
- Collaborate closely with Animal Care, Inspectorate, and Community Outreach teams to achieve positive welfare outcomes.
- Contribute to staff education, training, and community engagement events that promote animal health and welfare.
- Uphold RSPCA's values, Code of Conduct, and commitment to safety, compassion, and respect in all work.
What You'll Bring to the Role
- Minimum of 2 – 5 years' experience working as a veterinarian (shelter or clinical setting).
- Bachelor of Veterinary Science (or Australian-recognised equivalent).
- Proven experience in medical, surgical, or emergency care (welfare or shelter experience a bonus).
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills with a calm, pragmatic approach.
- Can stay calm, think fast, and make sound clinical calls under pressure.
- Clear, confident communication – written, verbal, and when required, in court or media settings.
- Genuine empathy and resilience to manage both the rewards and challenges of shelter medicine.
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to support, guide, and work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Excellent attention to detail, organisation, and record-keeping.
- Physical capability to perform manual handling tasks (up to 10kg).
Why Join Us
- 8 weeks paid parental leave, flexible work options, study leave and leave for your pets.
- Access to counselling and mental health support whenever you need it.
- Free on-site parking, staff discounts, novated leases and free pet vaccinations.
- 40% off Royal Canin food and free animal adoptions.
- Ongoing learning and development to grow your skills and career.
- A purpose-driven role where every day makes a real difference for animals in need.
