Peregian Beach College is a non-religious, co-educational, independent school that caters for students from the Preparatory Years to Year 12. About the Role:

The Groundskeeper plays a vital role in creating a safe, welcoming, and well-maintained College environment. This position is responsible for the upkeep of College grounds, gardens, sports fields, and outdoor facilities, ensuring that students, staff, and visitors experience a clean and attractive setting that supports learning and community pride.

Key Selection Criteria

The successful applicant will have:

• Knowledge of lawn, garden, and tree care, including safe chemical use
• Ability to safely use and maintain tools, machinery, and equipment
• Good physical fitness and ability to work outdoors in varying conditions
• Commitment to safe work practices and compliance with College Policies
• Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Experience in a school or similar environment, preferred.

Qualifications

• Current Blue Card (Paid)
• Provide First Aid and CPR certified (desired)
• Current Driver's Licence (manual vehicle) (desired)
• Trade qualification or relevant certificate (e.g. Horticulture) (highly regarded)

Duties and Responsibilities

Grounds and Gardens

• Maintain lawns, trees, shrubs, and gardens across the College grounds
• Undertake mowing, edging, weeding, pruning, mulching, planting, and irrigation
• Apply pesticides, herbicides, and fertilisers in line with safe practices and regulations
• Prepare and maintain sporting fields, courts, and playgrounds
• Operate tools, machinery, and vehicles safely and responsibly
• Comply with Workplace Health & Safety and environmental guidelines
• Ensure safe storage and handling of chemicals and equipment
• Maintain records of work undertaken, inspections, and compliance activities

Other

• Assist with set-up/pack-down of equipment and furniture for College requirements
• Liaise with Contractors as required
• Interact respectfully with all students, staff, parents, and visitors
• Support sustainability initiatives, including recycling, water use, and biodiversity projects.
• Work within the Property Services Team to ensure the smooth daily running of the College
• Any other reasonable and/or ad-hoc tasks as directed by Property Services Manager or Head of College
