As Leading Firefighter, you'll work within our full-time Fire team and alongside trained volunteers to provide a quick, coordinated, and professional response to emergency situations across Hamilton Island. This is a hands-on role that requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and a commitment to safety and community wellbeing.
Where you'll make an impact- Command, control and coordinate fire ground, rescue and emergency operations
- Operate and manage emergency response vehicles and equipment
- Provide training and guidance to our volunteer firefighting team
- Maintain and update operational procedures, systems, and safety protocols
- Arrange inspections and oversee fixed fire detection and suppression system maintenance
- Respond to and report on emergency incidents accurately and professionally
- Manage after-hours call-outs and incident coordination when required
You are a calm, capable, and dedicated firefighting professional with excellent communication skills and a strong sense of leadership. You thrive in remote, self-sufficient environments and take pride in serving and protecting a vibrant island community.
To be successful, you will need:- Valid MR Driver Licence (Essential)
- Certificate III in Public Safety Fire Fighting Operations (Essential)
- First Aid and CPR (Essential)
- Advanced Resucitation (Essential)
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (Desirable)
- Demonstrated experience in structural and bush firefighting, rescue, and hazmat
- Qualified and experienced in the use of breathing apparatus
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proven leadership and team coordination skills
- Tech-savvy with the ability to maintain digital records and incident reports
- Ability to work autonomously and remain calm in high-pressure situations
