About the Role
The Psychiatric Enrolled Nurse, under the supervision of the ANUM/RPN 2 on shift, will be responsible for the delivery of high quality consumer care within the team environment.  To work collaboratively within the multi-disciplinary team, in a service that actively promotes recovery orientated practice.

  • Administer medication in accordance with hospital procedures, protocols and policies
  • Contribute effectively in clinical review processes and team activities
  • Provide high quality clinical services to consumers

Classifications for this position will range from classification range from Psychiatric Enrolled Nurse Level 2 PE21 – YD22 ($ $73,897)

Footbridge CCU is a 20 bed residential mental health service, operating 24/7 365 days per year. We support consumers to maintain and improve their mental health. We support consumers to work on their personal recovery goals. Footbridge also provides rehabilitation, support with maximizing NDIS and discharge planning to permanent accommodation.

LOCAL WORK ENVIRONMENT

St. Vincent's Mental Health (SVMH) includes an adult area mental health service for the inner city areas of Yarra and Boroondara.  The adult mental health service components are: The Footbridge Community Care Unit (CCU), the 44 bed Acute Inpatient Service (AIS) located on the St. Vincent's Hospital site, the North Fitzroy PARC and two community mental health services (CMHS) at Hawthorn and East Melbourne (Clarendon CMHS). Community mental health services comprise the Triage and Crisis assessment and Treatment (CAT) Service and the Primary Intervention Care Team (PICT) includes Extended Triage and HOPE (Suicide Prevention), Continuing Care (CCT), Mobile Support and Treatment (MST) and Homeless Outreach (CHOPS) services.  A Consultation & Liaison Service is provided to the health service. NEXUS Dual Diagnosis Service, the Body Image and Eating Disorders Assessment and Treatment Service (BETRS) and NEVIL Training Cluster are regional services. Statewide services are the Victorian Dual Disability Service and the Victorian Transcultural Mental Health. The Acute Inpatient Service includes 5 beds designated as the Koori State-wide Inpatient Service and linked to the Victorian Aboriginal Health Service.

POSITION PURPOSE

The Psychiatric Enrolled Nurse, under the supervision of the ANUM/RPN 2 on shift, will be responsible for the delivery of high quality consumer care within the team environment.  To work collaboratively within the multi-disciplinary team, in a service that actively promotes recovery orientated practice.

POSITION DUTIES

  • Work within the Strengths Model of Recovery Orientated Practice
  • Provide high quality clinical services to consumers
  • Administer medication in accordance with hospital procedures, protocols and policies
  • Contribute effectively in clinical review processes and team activities
  • Display active participation in professional development and learning opportunities
  • Display a high standard of clinical practice and professional conduct at all times, providing clinical support to other members of the multi-disciplinary team
  • Assist with medical and diagnostic procedures carried out on the unit
  • Maintenance of all documentation in line with SVMH policies
  • Work in accordance to legislative requirements of the Victorian Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022
  • Participate in ongoing education by attending training and contribute to the orientation and development of new staff
  • Respond to diversity by demonstrating culturally competent practice
  • You will support Consumers in becoming experts and leaders of their own care by:
  • Actively upholding a culture of hope by using optimistic language supporting people and celebrating consumer's recovery efforts
  • Working with people to support and sustain existing resources, assets, networks and relationships and access opportunities, resources and services to achieve their recovery goals
  • Sharing information openly with consumers
  • Actively challenging stigmatizing attitudes, discrimination and social exclusion
  • Providing  education  about  medication,  self-help,  coping  strategies  and  symptom management

SELECTION CRITERIA

ESSENTIAL REGISTRATION, LICENSE OR QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Certificate, Diploma, or Degree in nursing which meets the registration requirements of APHRA
  • Enrolled Nurse.  Medication Endorsement.
  • Post registration qualification in relevant area of specialty or in process of achieving same.

OTHER ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Demonstrated ability in working as part of the multidisciplinary clinical team in promoting a standard of excellence in clinical practice.   This includes the supervision of students, and contributing to team clinical processes such as Clinical Review and Group Supervision
  • A comprehensive understanding and working knowledge of the Victorian Mental Health and Wellbeing Act
  • (including amendments) and other relevant legislation
  • Commitment  to  working  collaboratively  and  effectively  with  multiple key  stakeholders  both internal and external of St. Vincent's Health (including consumers, carers, family members and community agencies)
  • Previous experience working in a mental health setting under a recovery oriented framework

National Police Check:

I understand that it is a condition of my employment to provide SVHM with a current National Police Certificate PRIOR TO COMMENCING WORK and this is at my own cost.

I understand that regardless of the frequency, if I am working and or visiting in a designated 'high risk area' of SVHM (as defined in the SVHA Pre-employment/Appointment Safety Checks Policy) I will be subject to periodic Police Checks every three years at my own cost.
