Job Title
Research Officer – Tissue Imaging and Spatial Omics
Job Description
An excellent opportunity is available for a Research Officer to join the Centre of Dynamic Imaging in the Advanced Technology and Biology Division at Australia's pre-eminent biomedical research institute.
About the Position
We are seeking a highly motivated Research Officer to join our team in the Centre for Dynamic Imaging, supporting the preparation of tissue specimens and the acquisition of data using advanced 3D multiplexed imaging and spatial omics technologies. The ideal candidate will have experience with confocal microscopy and, preferably, additional expertise in techniques such as light sheet or multiphoton microscopy, or prior experience with imaging-based spatial omics platforms. Demonstrated skills in tissue preparation, such as tissue clearing and immunofluorescence staining, are also essential.
The successful candidate will join a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary team, contributing to experimental design and the optimization of antibody panels. They will be well organized, detail-oriented, and capable of maintaining comprehensive records of experimental protocols. This position is well suited to an early-career postdoctoral scientist eager to learn new approaches, or to an applications specialist seeking to expand their expertise across diverse disease areas. The role also requires flexibility to take on routine tasks integral to core facility operations.
A PhD, with training in biology, molecular biology or relevant area of study plus experience in advanced light microscopy techniques, such as confocal microscopy is essential. The successful candidate should also have experience in tissue preparation and immunofluorescence or immunohistochemical staining (mouse or human).

Essential Knowledge and Skills:
- A PhD in Biology, Molecular Biology or similar area of study.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent time management skills and a high level of motivation in achieving research outcomes.
- Experience in the operation of at least one of these techniques, laser scanning confocal microscopy, light sheet microscopy, digital pathology or spatial omics technologies.
- Experience in the preparation of tissue (mouse or human)
- Experience in immunohistochemical or immunofluorescence staining of tissues.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills with meticulous attention to detail in experimentation and genuine enthusiasm to contribute to teaching and scientific discoveries.
Desirable Knowledge and Skills:
- Advanced knowledge of scientific imaging techniques and an understanding of analysis methods.
- Experience in animal handling.
- Experience in tissue fixation by perfusion and different tissue sectioning technques.
- Experience in the design of antibody panels for immune cell profiling.
- Record of effective collaborations that lead to scientific output.
