*Communications Officer, APS5 ***This Federal Government Department is seeking an experienced and dynamic communications professional to join its team on a labour hire basis.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to high-impact policy and program initiatives through strategic communication planning and execution.

APS Level: APS5

Security Clearance: Baseline

Contract Duration: Up to 8 months, with potential for extension

Location: Tuggeranong 

Work Hours: Fully onsite

Key Responsibilities****

  • Strategic Communication Planning: Collaborate within a small team to develop and implement comprehensive communication plans and strategies.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with policy and program areas, proactively identifying and addressing their communication needs.
  • Content Development: Support the creation of diverse communication materials including social media content, web copy, stakeholder products, videos, and accessible formats.
  • Procurement & Budget Support: Assist in managing communication contracts and liaise with external suppliers to ensure successful delivery.
  • Performance Monitoring: Track and report on the effectiveness of strategic communication initiatives.
  • Research & Creative Support: Aid the Communications Manager in research and creative development processes.
  • Ministerial & Executive Briefings: Prepare written materials including minutes, briefings, correspondence, and Question Time Briefs (QTBs) on policy matters.
  • Team Collaboration: Contribute to a high-performing team environment, supporting key performance indicators and quality outcomes.
  • Evaluation & Capability Building: Help assess team and program performance while developing personal capabilities for consistent, high-quality results.
  • Administrative Duties: Provide business support including summarising briefs and media mentions, managing records, and preparing meeting agendas and minutes.

  • Absences should be negotiated in advance and in writing with the Department manager. Unplanned absences must be communicated promptly, and supporting evidence may be requested.
  • If unavailable, contractors may be asked to provide a suitable substitute at no additional cost.
