About Cuthberts

Cuthberts is a boutique accounting and advisory firm supporting privately owned and family-run businesses. We're seeking an experienced Contract Tax Accountant to take ownership of a client portfolio and deliver high-quality compliance and strategic advice with minimal oversight.

Founded by Tony Dormer, past president of Business NSW, a practitioner who has built and sold a successful firm, Cuthberts is growing again. This engagement is ideal for someone ready to step out on their own as an independent professional contractor who values autonomy, commercial insight, and meaningful client relationships. Client restraints will be in place.

We're flexible on structure and hours with engagement terms and rates reflecting your experience.

What You'll Do

  • Prepare and review financial statements, income tax returns, and BAS across multiple entity types
  • Liaise directly with the ATO and handle complex tax and compliance matters
  • Deliver forecasting, budgeting, and cashflow planning using cloud-based tools
  • Provide advisory input on structuring, pricing, succession, and growth strategies
  • Help refine systems and workflows as the firm continues to scale

What You Bring

  • Minimum 10 years' experience in public practice, with strong tax and compliance expertise
  • Proven ability to manage client relationships end-to-end with minimal supervision
  • Deep technical skills across companies, trusts, partnerships, and individuals
  • CA or CPA qualification preferred
  • Confident handling ATO interactions and resolving complex compliance issues
  • Commercial mindset and ability to offer forward-looking business advice
  • Based ideally in VIC or NSW for in-person collaboration, though exceptional remote candidates will be considered
  • No offshore applicants: we're committed to working directly with Australian-based professionals
