Electrical & Instrumentation Engineer

  • $100 - $120 per hour + super based on experience

About the Role We're seeking an experienced Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Engineer with strong hands-on experience in process analyser systems to join an established engineering team within a major refinery operation.

In this role, you'll be the site's subject matter expert for process analysers and analyser systems — ensuring they are designed, maintained, and operated safely, reliably, and efficiently. You'll collaborate closely with technicians, engineers, and operations teams to troubleshoot complex issues, support ongoing maintenance, and lead reliability improvements across the analyser network.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical and operational support for all process analysers and analyser systems across the site.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve analyser faults to improve reliability and uptime.
  • Support the design, installation, and commissioning of new analyser equipment and projects (CAPEX).
  • Develop and maintain maintenance strategies and life plans for analyser assets.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to instrumentation and E&I technicians.
  • Monitor analyser KPIs and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure analyser systems comply with relevant Hazardous Area and Electrical Safety standards.
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, and laboratory teams to align analyser performance with production and quality goals.
  • Contribute to shutdown (T&I) planning, defining analyser work scopes and ensuring readiness.
  • Actively promote and uphold a strong safety culture across all site activities.

About You

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Instrumentation Engineering (RPEQ registered or eligible for chartered status).
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in oil & gas, refining, or heavy industrial environments.
  • Proven field-based engineering experience – not purely design office.
  • Demonstrated experience working with process analysers (e.g. Gas Chromatographs, spectrometers, or gas/liquid analysers).
  • Strong understanding of hazardous area classification, EH&S, and isolation procedures.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, planning, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Hands-on, practical approach with the ability to guide and support field technicians.

Desirable:

  • Additional qualification in Instrumentation or Control Systems.
  • Experience using maintenance management systems (e.g. SAP).
