The Role
We are pleased to announce the continuation of the Fellowship in Breast, Endocrine and Melanoma Surgery at both The Tweed Valley Hospital and John Flynn Private Hospital for a one year period commencing January 2026. This fellowship offers an outstanding opportunity for training in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery, Endocrine and Complex Melanoma and Soft Tissue Tumour Surgery, with a substantial clinical workload in operating sessions, post-op ward care, breast clinics and weekly multi-disciplinary meetings. Applicants are expected to participate in a 1 in 3 on-call Fellows roster at Tweed Hospital sharing general surgical on-call duties with 2 other fellows in Upper GI and Colorectal. There are 9 General Surgeons at the Tweed/John Flynn Hospitals and is staffed by a full complement of Advanced Trainees in General Surgery. Expectations are that you will be involved in teaching supervising and mentoring at this level. Applicants should hold a FRACS; be eligible for registration with AHPRA and NSW Medical Board; have recently completed advanced training in general surgery. This position involves working with 3 specialist surgeons and will assist with private surgical operations. You will be encouraged to participate in clinical programs, initiate research, oversee the Breast Outpatient and Breast Assessment Clinics, and teach medical students.

About Tweed Valley Hospital
This is an exciting opportunity to join Tweed Valley Hospital, your primary work location and a new, major referral hospital at the heart of the network of hospitals and health facilities across the Tweed-Byron region, also including Murwillumbah District & Byron Central Hospitals. The 723.3 million state-of-the-art hospital opened on 14 May 2024 and will deliver additional health services and bed capacity to meet the growing community's healthcare needs.
Tweed Valley Hospital has:
- currently 280 beds with capability to expand to 430 beds
- expansive outpatient facilities with opportunity to increase available clinics
- a developing interventional cardiology service
- a fully capable emergency department with 42 treatment spaces
- an integrated cancer care service with radiotherapy
- 12 operating theatres
- a dedicated Learning, Development & Research centre located on campus, with modern library facilities
- End of trip facilities (showers etc) and free staff parking

MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.
- Demonstrated past or current clinical practice in an Breast Endocrine Unit of a high standard consistent with the role of a Post Graduate Fellow, with ability to adapt clinical practice in accordance with contemporary, evidence based best practice.
- Current Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. Proven evidence of being a scholar, including a demonstrated commitment to undertake and complete the required Post Graduate Fellowship training program, actively contribute to research activities and the ability to supervise and train junior medical staff.
- Demonstrated evidence of being a skilled communicator, including both oral and written skills, communicating with patients, students, other health professionals and the public.
- Demonstrated excellent communication skills, including the ability to network and operate within an interdisciplinary framework and to work with other stakeholders in a variety of settings.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, as well as a professional attitude and flexibility with the ability and willingness to participate in an on-call roster.
- Evidence of relevant technical expertise undertaking surgery and procedures appropriate to a Post Graduate Fellow's training, skills, expertise and the available facilities including equipment, team, conditions and staffing.
- Valid unrestricted drivers' licence for use in NSW/Australia and willingness to travel in the course of employment.
