Brief Summary of role:

The Housing, Municipal & Essential Services (HMES) Officer is responsible for undertaking repairs and maintenance of all Kalano communities, land and properties.

Duties may include, but not limited to;


• Rubbish collection/removal


• Lawn/garden maintenance


• Building repairs and maintenance

This is a laboursome role that is vastly outdoors and requires a degree of physical fitness.

Key Responsibilities:


• Undertaking maintenance of community houses, as directed by line manager.


• Carry out property inspections to identify maintenance and repairs required.


• Ensure proper/intended use of all equipment and assets.


• Ensure all equipment/machinery is inspected prior to use for maintenance or potential WHS (Workplace Health and Safety) risks.


• Rubbish/garbage removal throughout the community.


• Maintenance of community parks, gardens, lawns, etc.


• Assist community members with yard maintenance when directed.


• Complete any inhouse Repairs and Maintenance request.


• Ensure that the HMES work environment remains clean and tidy.


• Prepare food for events, meeting or as requested.


• Other duties as directed by the HMES Manager.

Salary and Conditions:

Employment Type: Fulltime

Salary Range: $53,790.43 per annum (pro-rata)

Location: Kalano's HMES Office – Katherine, NT.

Hours of work: 37.5 hours per week – 7.5 hours per day [Monday to Friday | 08:00am – 4:30pm]

The successful applicant should possess the following:

Qualifications

  • Trade qualifications or relevant certificate in related field.
  • Certificate II in Construction (Preferred not mandatory)

The successful applicant should pose the following attributes, skills and competencies;


• Cross cultural awareness and effective communication skills.


• Able to perform regular & physical outdoor tasks, in varying conditions.


• Competent use of machinery & power tools.


• Excellent understanding and knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety practices and regulations


• Experience working in Indigenous communities and understanding of cultural awareness


• Good time-management and organisational skills.


• Good communication and literacy skills, with competent use of Information Technology, including software such as Word, Excel and Outlook


• Current NT Drivers Licence, National Police Check and Ochre Card.

Mandatory before commencement:

  • Valid NT Drivers Licence
  • Valid NT Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card)
  • National Police Check

Willing to obtain upon commencement:

  • White Card
