Industry Analyst (Analytical Chemist)

Pay rate:TBC (market rates)

Location: Thornleigh, NSW

Hours: 35 hours per week, flexible start and finish times

Duration: 12-month contract (with potential for extension)

About the Role In this role, you'll perform routine instrumental LC, LC-MS and GC-MS analyses on workplace air and surface samples, as well as urinary samples. You'll be responsible for troubleshooting, equipment maintenance, and producing high-quality analytical data and reports in line with ISO 17025 accredited procedures.

You'll also contribute to research and method development to identify chemical exposure in workplace environments, prepare technical reports and advice, and support projects that address emerging work health and safety issues.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct high-quality chemical analyses using chromatography and mass spectrometry techniques.
• Maintain and calibrate specialised analytical instruments to ensure accuracy.
• Develop and validate new analytical methods to detect hazardous substances.
• Prepare clear, accurate technical reports and provide advice to internal and external stakeholders.
• Participate in technical committees and contribute to the development of safety standards, codes of practice, and related policies.
• Ensure all work is carried out safely, efficiently, and to accredited standards.

Skills and Experience Required

• Tertiary qualifications in Chemistry or a related scientific field.
• Experience using LC, LC-MS and/or GC-MS instrumentation in a routine analytical or ISO 17025-accredited laboratory.
• A willingness to learn new analytical methods and contribute to method development.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Successful completion of a criminal record and qualifications check (medical and ongoing health monitoring may be required depending on work area).
