Minutes to Seconds is looking for a Data Engineer Microsoft Azure and Synapse in a Contract role in Melbourne.

About the Role
We are seeking a skilled
Data Engineer
with strong expertise in
Microsoft Azure data services
and
Azure Synapse Analytics
to join our growing data team. The ideal candidate will design, develop, and maintain data pipelines, ensuring data quality, reliability, and performance for analytics and reporting needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines using Azure Data Factory, Synapse Pipelines, and other Azure data services.
  • Develop and optimise data models in Azure Synapse for high-performance analytics.
  • Ingest, transform, and integrate structured and unstructured data from multiple sources into the data platform.
  • Implement data quality checks, validation rules, and error-handling processes.
  • Collaborate with data analysts, BI developers, and business stakeholders to understand data requirements.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot pipeline performance, ensuring minimal downtime and data accuracy.
  • Apply best practices for security, scalability, and cost optimisation in Azure-based data solutions.
  • Maintain documentation of data processes, schemas, and design decisions.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in data engineering roles, preferably in a cloud environment.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Factory, and Azure Data Lake Storage.
  • Proficiency in SQL (T-SQL) for querying, transformation, and performance tuning.
  • Experience with data modelling (Star/Snowflake schemas) and data warehousing concepts.
  • Understanding of ETL/ELT best practices, data governance, and security.
  • Familiarity with Azure Databricks, Python, or Spark is a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Experience with Power BI or other BI tools.
  • Knowledge of DevOps for data (CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code).
  • Exposure to machine learning pipelines in Azure ML.
  • Understanding of DataOps and Agile delivery practices.
