About the Opportunity

We are seeking a Governance Officer to work directly with our Governance Coordinator to deliver high-quality, community aligned outcomes.Reporting to the Governance Coordinator, you will be contributing to a breadth of complex Governance issues.

You will play a critical role in ensuring that the effective operation of the Council's governance systems is in line with the Local Government Act 1995.

Key duties under the direction of the Governance Coordinator may include, but are not limited to;

  • Assist with preparing and publishing Council documents including agendas, minutes, business papers, and reports for Council and Committee meetings;
  • Assist in managing the Town's meeting processes ensuring compliance with relevant internal protocols and statutory requirements;
  • Assist, where required, with reviewing/amending/making policies and local laws;
  • Support the Governance Coordinator as requested with all Governance tasks, the Integrated Planning Framework, Operational Risk Management, and Local Government Elections;
  • Provide support to ensure the Town complies with relevant statutory requirements; and
  • Carry out other duties as requested by management which may be reasonably expected within the scope of the classification level and skill base of the employee.

Essential

  • High levels of attention to detail;
  • Ability to analyse data, information in reports and policy content;
  • Problem solving, research and organisational skills to support in ensuring the organisation is compliant with all aspects of legislative reporting, risk management reporting and policy review controls;
  • Strong and forward-thinking communication skills;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality;
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders; and
  • Demonstrated professionalism, discretion and commitment to privacy, security and confidentiality of information.

Additional Requirements

  • Current Australian Working Rights;
  • Current National Police Clearance (or willingness to obtain); and
  • Willingness to under-go a Pre-Employment Medical (as required).
