Play a crucial role as a Senior Systems Engineer within the Digital & Data Team at the VBA

Position overview

The Senior Systems Engineer leads in planning and implementing changes to infrastructure with the goal of enhancing performance. The role will perform complex storage and server data backup, data migration and disaster recovery operations, while also being responsible for performing complex software and operating system upgrades and tracking system licensing.

The role will liaise with a range of key stakeholders - both technically and from a business perspective - ensuring that all core IT applications are upgraded, developed, secured and compliant to VBA's compliance and governance policies. Demonstrating excellent communication skills, the role will support and maintain a variety of business applications, while leading projects to develop and improve them through Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).

What we are looking for:

  • Certified professional with ITIL, Prince2, Agile, or similar methodologies, along with MCSE/MCSA certification and an ICT tertiary qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Extensive experience in leading the development, enhancement, support, and administration of Microsoft Cloud and ICT applications, infrastructure, and system integration design.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to resolve complex cloud infrastructure and security issues; knowledge of cybersecurity principles and experience with security monitoring tools such as, SIEM solutions is a plus.
  • An individual who is comfortable with complexity, applying analytical and conceptual thinking to develop creative, innovative solutions; makes sound, timely decisions by weighing facts, alternatives, and emotional factors even in uncertain or high-pressure situations.
  • Builds and maintains trusted, collaborative partnerships by understanding stakeholder needs and organisational contexts, resolving issues promptly, promoting harmony and consistently delivering high-quality customer-focused outcomes.

The Victorian Building Authority (VBA) is the primary regulator of Victoria's building and plumbing industries, ensuring compliance with relevant laws that protect the Victorian community and promote confidence in the built environment. The VBA manages practitioner registration, monitors industry standards, and enforces compliance through inspections, investigations, and audits. It also supports industry professionals by providing guidance, education, and resources to uphold safety, durability, and sustainability in building and plumbing work.
