Project Engineer

Join our Downer Professional Services team and play a key role in delivering complex defence and national security projects that safeguard Australia's future.

Downer Professional Services is comprised of two business units, our Technical, Advisory, and Capability consulting practice and Team Downer, a major service partner to Defence. Together, we are a multi-disciplinary advisory and delivery partner of choice for our clients in Defence and National Security.

We currently have an opportunity for a Project Engineer in ACT to work on The Maritime Integrated Warfare Systems (MIWS) project
.

What You'll Do

This role offers a broad scope, with key role responsibilities including:

• Build and maintain schedules for engineering activities, coordinating team resources and tasking to support project success
• Lead engagement with internal and external stakeholders to optimise resource use, advance tasks, and support informed decision-making
• Coordinate engineering activities across disciplines, including Cyber and Safety Working Groups and Major Systems Reviews
• Oversee governance processes such as risk management, configuration control, design certification, assurance, and internal surveillance
• Review and improve engineering contract deliverables and project artefacts, while communicating risks, issues, and progress to leadership

What You'll Bring

• Demonstrated experience in CASG/NSSG projects within the Defence Capability Lifecycle
• Strong background in Systems Engineering, supported by relevant qualifications or practical experience
• Proven ability to identify, assess, and mitigate technical and project-related risks
• Exceptional communication and leadership skills, with a track record of influencing teams and stakeholders effectively

Due to the nature of the work, you are required to currently hold and maintain a minimum
Negative Vetting 1
or higher Security clearance as required by the Commonwealth. In some instances, compliance with
International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR)
requirements may also be an inherent requirement.
