About the Opportunity

We're looking for a strategic and passionate General Manager of Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) to lead our central SHE function. This is a critical senior leadership role responsible for shaping and executing Metcash's SHE strategy across our diverse operations — from head offices to distribution centres, manufacturing sites, and retail stores.

You'll be the trusted advisor to our Board and Group Leadership Team, driving a culture of safety and continuous improvement across the Metcash Group and supporting our independently owned store network.

In this Role, You Will

  • Lead the development and execution of the Metcash SHE Strategy
  • Provide expert counsel to the Board and GLT on SHE matters
  • Oversee SHE policies, frameworks, systems, and risk management
  • Drive SHE culture and capability uplift across the organisation
  • Lead incident and injury management frameworks and initiatives
  • Monitor SHE performance and lead reporting and communications
  • Build and empower a large, high-performing SHE team

You're Likely a Match If You Have

  • Senior leadership experience in SHE across complex, multi-site environments
  • Deep expertise in SHE strategy, systems, and risk management
  • Strong knowledge of Australian and NZ SHE regulations
  • Proven ability to influence at executive and board levels
  • Experience leading large teams and driving cultural change
  • A collaborative, proactive, and resilient leadership style
  • Tertiary qualifications in SHE, legal, or a related discipline
