The Carpenter role is responsible for overseeing and participating in the demolition, construction, installation, and repair of structures, fixtures and fittings. This role combines hands-on carpentry work with leadership responsibilities, ensuring that projects are completed efficiently, safely, and to high standards of quality. The carpenter will have extensive carpentry experience, leadership skills, and the ability to manage a team of apprentice carpenters, Junior carpenters and labourers if the site supervisor is not around. Experience using Wunderbuild or a similar project Management software would be an advantage. Quality control checks using company forms are also to be carried out at the completion of certain tasks.
Key Responsibilities:- Construction: Perform quality carpentry work, including constructing, installing, and repairing structures, fixtures and fittings. Liaising with the project manager when needed. Carry out construction works as per plans and supervisor's directions.
- Leadership and Supervision: Lead and supervise apprentice carpenters and labourers, assigning tasks and ensuring that work is completed according to project plans and schedules. Provide guidance, training, and support to team members, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment. Monitor team performance and job progress, Fill out a daily site diary on Wunderbuild , do take offs for materials, and address any issues that arise and ensuring that quality and safety standards are maintained on schedule and within timeframes.
- Project Coordination: Coordinate with project managers, site supervisors, and other trades to ensure seamless project execution. Assist in planning and scheduling work activities, ensuring efficient use of resources and timely completion of tasks. Allocate tasks to avoid having people standing around watching. Communicate project progress, issues, and updates to site supervisor, project manager, and relevant stakeholders if necessary.
- Quality Control and Safety: Inspect and verify the accuracy and quality of work, ensuring compliance with building codes, specifications, and company standards. Proactively help to maintain a safe work environment. Identify and address any potential hazards or safety concerns, taking corrective actions as necessary. Conduct toolbox talks and work briefings if the supervisor is unavailable.
