Townsville Catholic Education Office supports a diverse region extending from Townsville to the Burdekin and Whitsunday regions in the South, North to Ingham and Halifax, South-West to Winton, and West to the border with the Northern Territory, encompassing Mount Isa and several small, isolated western towns and east to Palm Island.

About the role
Townsville Catholic Education Office, is currently seeking an experienced and dedicated Project Officer - Respectful Relationships Education. This is a Full Time, Fixed Term role commencing 14 July 2025 to 12 July 2026.
The Project Officer - Respectful Relationships Education is responsible for supporting the implementation of consent and respectful relationships education across schools within Townsville Diocese. The role will ensure the integration of Catholic perspectives and teachings with the ACARA Version 9 Health and Physical Education (HPE) curriculum. The Project Officer will also focus on building the confidence and capacity of school based staff to deliver the content effectively.
The Project Officer - Respectful Relationships Education is responsible for leading and supporting schools in the delivery of respectful relationships education through the review and development of curriculum resources and professional learning, guided by the Australian Curriculum v9.0, The SHAPE Paper, the Community Health paper, and the Positions statements for phases.
The Project Officer – Respectful Relationships Education is responsible for supporting the implementation of the Love Bites Respectful Relationships Program (Junior and Senior programs) across secondary schools within the Townsville Diocese. This role will ensure the successful planning, coordination of training and where required, the facilitation of the program within the secondary schools.
The Project Officer - Respectful Relationships Education receives general guidance from staff within Student Wellbeing and Pastoral Services, Learning and Teaching, and Catholic Identity. As well as working across the Diocese as required and will be expected to work with a substantial degree of professional autonomy
Key Accountabilities

In collaboration with Learning and Teaching, Student Wellbeing and Catholic Identity departments, update existing, and develop new resources to ensure a consistent approach in the implementation of Version 9.0 of the HPE curriculum with a specific focus on consent and respectful relationships education.

Provide targeted support to educators and school leaders through coaching, design and delivery of high-quality professional learning (online or in-person) in the area of respectful relationships to improve curriculum knowledge and teaching practice and alignment with Catholic education perspectives.

Collaborate with stakeholders across the diocese to develop and implement an evaluation framework to monitor for the usage of teaching resources and the impact of consent and respectful relationships education in schools.

Develop collaborative relationships and maintain effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.

Develop and maintain comprehensive project plans, incorporating strategies, timeframes, risk assessments and reporting stages that contribute to the successful implementation of the identified departmental action under relevant child protection laws.

In collaboration with Principals, Student Protection, Student Wellbeing, Learning and Teaching and Catholic Identity departments, update existing, and develop any new resources to ensure a consistent approach in the implementation of the Love Bites Respectful Relationships Program (Junior and Senior Programs).

Provide targeted support to educators and school leaders through coordination, planning and where required the delivery of high-quality professional learning through the program.

Liaise with NAPCAN to coordinate and schedule training requirements for the Love Bites Program across the Diocese.

Ensure trained facilitators are informed of any changes/updates to the current programs and implement those changes in a timely manner.

Provide progress reports, advice, and program development, together with the preparation of formal documents, including interim or annual progress reports for QCEC, that are in line with the CRRE funding schedule.

Maintain appropriate records and files in line with school and system policy and procedure.

Access appropriate professional and collegial support with opportunities to maintain professional expertise including coordination and attendance at Love Bites Network meetings, including attendance to events such as the Townsville Local Level Alliance Meetings (LLA).

Access appropriate professional and collegial support with opportunities to maintain professional expertise including attending relevant Network meetings held once per term at TCEO.

Perform other duties as envisaged by the assigned classification under the relevant industrial award or agreement and in accordance with the skills, competency and training of the occupant.
Knowledge

High level knowledge and understanding of the Australian Curriculum and current theory and educational practice relating to respectful relationships and consent education.

High level knowledge and understanding of the Love Bites Respectful Relationships Program.

Proven expertise in designing and facilitating professional development programs.

Proven ability to provide advice regarding physical, cultural and emotional wellbeing and associated activities including recommendations and advice on respectful relationships programming and strategies.

Demonstrated high level project management skills including the ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and develop consistent processes.

Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills, including experience in training delivery and capacity to contribute to the professional development of others through facilitating professional learning, modelling and coaching experience.

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team.

Demonstrated understanding and ability for instructional coaching in a school environment.
Skills

Ability to communicate with a diverse range of staff across primary and secondary school settings.

Mandatory Criteria

Current Working with Children Suitability Card - The successful candidate will require a paid Blue Card before commencement as per the No Card, No Start policy developed by Queensland Government – exemption for AHPRA or OCT Registration.

Full professional registration (for example, full registration as a teacher in Queensland or AHPRA registration).

Current Driver's Licence.

Ability to travel from time to time within the Catholic Diocese of Townsville.

Ability to perform the physical requirements of the role in a safe manner.

Understanding of, and sensitivity to, the ethos of the Catholic school.
Desirable Criteria

Current accreditation as a Love Bites Facilitator (NAPCAN).

Experienced classroom teacher with specialised knowledge in consent and respectful relationships education.

Knowledge of the Enhancing Catholic School Identity (ECSI) project.
