The Opportunity
This newly created role strengthens Ramsay Health Care's Government Relations and Health Policy function, supporting effective engagement across Commonwealth, State/Territory, and local jurisdictions. Reporting to the Head of Government Relations and Health Policy, the Senior Adviser will shape and deliver Ramsay's public affairs strategy through targeted advocacy, stakeholder engagement, and relationship management. Working closely with Strategy, Communications, Clinical Governance, Hospital Executives, and Operational leaders, the role ensures external engagement is aligned to organisational priorities, enhances Ramsay's reputation as a trusted sector leader, and supports policy outcomes aligned to Ramsay's strategic and commercial objectives.
What You Will Bring
You will bring experience in government relations, public policy, or regulatory strategy within healthcare, public policy, or corporate environments, with a proven ability to influence policy, regulatory, or funding outcomes. You have a strong track record of building trusted relationships with senior political leaders, advisors, regulators, and industry stakeholders, and a solid understanding of Commonwealth and State/Territory policy processes. You are skilled in preparing clear, persuasive advice for senior executives and ministers, translating complex issues into practical insights, and operating confidently in high-stakes, politically sensitive environments.
Key Accountabilities:
- Act as a primary contact for government stakeholders, building strong relationships with ministers, advisors, departments, regulators, and policy agencies.
- Support the development and delivery of an integrated national government relations strategy aligned to Ramsay's long-term objectives and social licence.
- Provide timely political and policy intelligence, strategic advice, and high-quality briefing materials to Executive and operational leaders.
- Monitor and interpret legislative, regulatory, funding, and policy developments, advising on implications for Ramsay's operations and strategy.
- Prepare and coordinate submissions, position papers, talking points, and responses to government consultations, ensuring consistent messaging.
- Lead or support cross-functional advocacy initiatives, aligned to Ramsay's values, governance frameworks, and reputation.
- Contribute to the growth of public contracting opportunities through proactive engagement with Commonwealth and State agencies.
- Identify emerging political and regulatory risks and opportunities, and track government engagement outcomes, reporting insights to senior leadership and the Board.
Skills & Education
- Experience operating in large, complex, or matrixed healthcare or service-delivery organisations.
- Strong understanding of private hospital operations, public–private partnerships, health system funding, and regulatory frameworks.
- Tertiary qualifications in Public Policy, Political Science, Law, Health Administration, Economics, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated political acumen, with the ability to anticipate emerging issues and develop proactive strategies.
- A collaborative, partnership-oriented approach, with proven ability to align diverse stakeholders around shared outcomes.
- High-level strategic thinking combined with disciplined execution and strong attention to detail.
