Estimator – Piling

$100,000 – $120,000 + super | Full-time | Thomastown VIC (Hybrid WFH + Yard + site visits as required)

Grover Piling Group is a specialist rock-drilling, piling and retaining wall contractor delivering high-end residential basements, commercial warehouses and large retaining walls across Melbourne's growth corridors. We're known for getting tough jobs done right — especially in hard rock — and we have a strong pipeline of work.

Hands-on estimating role owning tenders end-to-end — from drawings to submission — working closely with our directors and engineer while operating independently.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare accurate BOQs for concrete and reinforcement (piles, capping beams, retaining walls)
• Interpret geotechnical reports & structural drawings to determine pile depths, founding conditions and ground breakdowns
• Perform take-offs for bored piers, retaining walls (sleeper & shotcrete), bulk excavation and basement works
• Liaise with suppliers/subbies for material, concrete and plant pricing
• Produce clear, professional quote submissions / tender docs
• Maintain estimating templates, rates and cost databases
• Flag risks early (access, ground, constructability)
• Bonus: prepare retaining wall long sections from design drawings

You've got enough runs on the board to work largely unsupervised — and you want to grow with us.

Essential

• 4–6+ years in estimating or CA (civil, piling, retaining walls or structural concrete)
• Confident with structural drawings, schedules & geotech reports
• Strong reinforcement knowledge (laps, hooks, helix/spiral calcs)
• Excel: solid templates, formulas, pivots
• High attention to detail — super accurate take-offs/BOQs
• Clear written and verbal communication (client-facing emails, RFIs, phone calls)

Nice to have

• PlanSwift / Groundplan / CostX (or similar)
• Familiar with CFA, anchors, basements
• Exposure to AS3600 / AS4678
• Ability to prepare long sections for retaining walls

• Ownership of the estimating function in a growing specialist contractor
• Close-knit team, quick decisions, no red tape
• $100k–$130k + super (commensurate with experience)
• Growth pathway (Lead Estimator / Commercial Manager)
• Hybrid: primarily WFH with time at our Thomastown yard + site visits as required
