About You

ASHM is seeking a dedicated and culturally grounded individual to lead and strengthen our engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health professionals and organisations, particularly those working in Aboriginal Medical Services (AMS), Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs), and related settings.

This role operates in a fast-paced, high-output environment and requires a proactive and organised professional who thrives on taking initiative, delivering outcomes with accuracy, and improving internal processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and coordination of ASHM's National Advisory Group on Indigenous Health Engagement.
  • Build strong, respectful relationships to support the active involvement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and organisations in the design, delivery, and evaluation of ASHM's services, policies, and programs.
  • Support capacity building in the care of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities affected by HIV, viral hepatitis, and sexual health concerns.
  • Strengthen ASHM's cultural capacity and embed culturally safe practices across the organisation.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Qualifications or comparable experience in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, advocacy, strategic planning, public administration, community engagement, policy or community engagement, policy or community development. Applicants who are currently studying in this area.
  • Experience in a 'cultural broker' role, supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people or organisations to guide non-Aboriginal organisations to deliver services.
  • Experience in seeking opportunities to identify, develop, and foster mutual relationships with existing and potential stakeholders
  • Experience engaging with health professionals. Knowledge of health workforce education and development.
  • Experience in non-for-profit sector, Government and/or Non-Government Organisations.

Skills and Abilities

  • Proficiency in computer skills
  • Ability to support ASHM to build its cultural capacity and embed an appreciation for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and history
  • Desire to work in a fair, equitable and non-judgemental environment particularly with people affected by HIV, viral hepatitis and sexual health concerns
