About the role:
The Building Technician plays a vital role in the preservation and upkeep of Parliament House and its precincts, ensuring a safe, comfortable, and functional environment for all occupants. From routine maintenance to troubleshooting complex system issues, this role handles a variety of tasks that support the operation of NSW Parliament. Work is undertaken as part of an operational roster and further is required to participate in a 24/7 after-hours on-call roster, responding to alarms from the BMCS and emergency calls from the Security Control Room to address faults in building systems as needed.

Based in NSW Parliament, the Department of Parliamentary Services (DPS) is a specialist service department working to support the operation of the Parliament of NSW by providing logistical support and advice to members, the Departments of the Legislative Council and Legislative Assembly and the people of New South Wales. Our office is found close to public transport in the heart of Macquarie Street CBD, next to the State Library and Sydney's Botanic Gardens.

About you:
As a subject matter expert for building and technical service, you will have experience in construction and maintenance of both modern and heritage buildings, and an understanding of building codes, regulations, and WHS requirements. The role is responsible for maintaining and repairing building systems, handling everything from HVAC to plumbing and electrical, as well as managing routine checks and urgent fixes.
As the first point of contact for troubleshooting, you collaborate with IT and contractors on specialised systems, ensuring essential services like fire systems and water supply remain operational. You manage repairs, oversee safety protocols, and make sure systems like doors and lifts are functioning smoothly.
