This is a 1205 Professional position subject to the terms and conditions agreed to in the collective bargaining agreement between Teamsters Local 1205 and The New School.
The Technology Center Supervisor plays a key role in supporting Learning Space Operations and advancing the mission of Information Technology by delivering outstanding customer service to the New School community. The ideal candidate is patient, empathetic, and communicative, with a strong interest in emerging technologies.
Technology Center Supervisors are problem-solvers who can step into the customer's shoes and advocate on their behalf. They are confident in troubleshooting technical issues, investigating root causes, and resolving customer concerns effectively. In this role, the Technology Center Supervisor also leads and mentors a team of student workers, ensuring smooth daily operations and a consistent standard of support across technology-enabled spaces.
CORE CAPABILITIES AND PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership & Supervision:
Ability to lead, train, and mentor student workers and part-time staff to ensure high-quality customer service and operational efficiency.
Technical Proficiency:
Strong working knowledge of audio-visual technologies, including projectors, cameras, microphones, lighting, computers, and related software.
Organizational Skills:
Capable of managing multiple administrative and operational tasks with attention to detail and follow-through.
Customer Service:
Committed to providing effective, first-tier technical and service support to students, faculty, and staff.
Problem Solving:
Able to identify issues with systems and equipment and coordinate with appropriate personnel for resolution.
Professionalism:
Consistently meets scheduling expectations, adheres to institutional policies, and maintains a high standard of conduct.
Other projects and duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Clear and professional verbal, written and email communication skills. Ability to effectively communicate with the management team, other supervisors and the center staff, following Information Technology and University protocols.
Work independently and with teammates as needed.
Defuse/mediate conflict towards resolution and handle challenging moments with composure and grace.
Efficiently and effectively manage time.
Ability to do physical work including but not limited to moving equipment, setting up equipment, capable of lifting approximately 50 lbs.
Maintain an up-to-date, working knowledge of Windows and Mac Platforms, MS Office, including Excel and Word, Printers and plotters, Audio/Video equipment and other software and hardware as required per location.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Academic Environment, especially higher education.
Printing and plotter management, including photographs, fabric prototypes, and multimedia print management.
WORK MODE
On-site - This position is primarily in-person and is based on campus to support effective in-person collaboration and engagement. Hybrid work arrangements may be considered on a case-by-case basis, depending on the nature of the role and operational needs. Any such arrangement must be discussed and approved in advance by the appropriate division lead or their designee.
HOURLY RATE
$20.77 per hour
