Role OverviewAs a Trades Assistant / Apprentice at Leathwood you will be an integral part of our maintenance department, supporting the day-to-day operations of our landscaping maintenance contracts and projects. You will assist the team in delivering high-quality services, follow safe work practices, and help maintain well-presented, well-cared-for client gardens and outdoor spaces. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a growing company in a vital operational role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with routine garden and landscape maintenance, including mowing, edging, weeding, pruning, hedging, and mulching.
  • Support planting, staking, fertilising, and watering to ensure healthy plant growth.
  • Help with pest and disease control under supervision.
  • Maintain hard surfaces, including sweeping, blowing, and general tidying.
  • Assist in setting up, repairing, and maintaining irrigation systems.
  • Safely use and maintain hand tools, power tools, and garden equipment.
  • Remove green waste and rubbish from worksites.
  • Follow instructions from supervisors and work collaboratively as part of the team.
  • Learn and apply horticultural knowledge and best practices while working toward apprenticeship qualifications.
  • Adhere to workplace health and safety standards at all times.

Experience & Skills:

  • No prior experience required – full training provided
  • Genuine interest in horticulture, landscaping, and working outdoors.
  • Willingness to learn and develop new skills in garden maintenance.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
  • Strong work ethic with reliability and punctuality.
  • Physically fit and comfortable with hands-on, outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
  • Good communication skills and a positive attitude.
  • Commitment to safety and safe work practices.
  • Driver's licence (provisional or full) is desirable but not essential. Hold a current and valid driver's licence.
