Details: The General Services Grade Level 7, Leading Hand positions within Place Management are responsible for leading a team engaged in the maintenance of the of urban open space areas including mowing, cleaning toilets and shopping centres, litter collection, garden beds maintenance and weed control services.

Day to day activities of this position include guiding work for the teams and working with the teams, ensuring WHS requirements are met, including risk assessments and implementation of temporary traffic management measures.

This role will assist in delivery of the annual works program and will ensure that daily critical tasks are completed. There is also a requirement for this position to create reports against milestones for the program and ensure that quality of delivered services.

  • Lead and work as part of a team of employees engaged in horticultural maintenance and cleaning operations and coordinate the use of resources to implement annual work programs and projects.
  • Undertake supervision of contractors and overseeing quality control. Develop and maintain a positive, respectful work culture that ensures equity and inclusion for all employees.
  • Work in a safe manner, identify and address risks in accordance with safe work practices including legislation, standard operating procedures and temporary traffic management. Assist in staff training, including induction training for new and temporary staff. Oversee the regions use and application of temporary traffic management.
  • Assist in the preparation and implementation of day-to-day work programs and effectively and efficiently deliver these work programs in accordance with City Presentations' Horticulture / Cleaning maintenance standards. Ensure that all plant and equipment is in good working condition
  • Work in partnership with regional manager, supervisor, direct reports and the public to deliver effective services to the ACT community. Consistently lead by example in delivering high quality customer services to the Canberra community.
  • Effectively use emails and prepare basic reports as required. Utilise mobile devices to assist in daily tasks. Keep effective records.
  • This position does involve direct supervision of industrial staff.

  • Workplace Health and Safety Induction (White Card) or willingness to obtain; General Construction Induction Card (White Card)
  • Asbestos awareness card or a willingness to obtain - Asbestos Awareness Training and evidence of completion delivered by a Registered Training Organisation is required before commencement, for further information refer to: Asbestos Awareness Training - WorkSafe ACT
  • Safe handling of sharps and infectious waste statement of attainment or willingness to obtain
  • Implement Traffic Control Plans qualification or a willingness to obtain
  • Driver's licence C Class is essential, Medium Rigid (MR) is preferred.
