ABOUT US

Ngaanyatjarra Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (NPY) Women's Council was founded and is still led, governed and directed by women from the NPY region. It was created to give a voice to women across 26 desert communities in the cross-border regions of Western Australia, South Australia and the Northern Territory. Today, we continue to provide progressive, innovative and evidence-based work in service delivery, advocacy and support.

At its core NPY Women's Council is about family and community – walytja. Our purpose is to work with women, children and their families of the Ngaanyatjarra, Pitjantjatjara and Yankunytjatjara region in central Australia. Our role is to work side by side and help increase their capacity to lead safe and healthy lives with improved life choices.

ABOUT THE TEAM

The NPY Women's Council Domestic and Family Violence Service (DFVS) supports Anangu women from the Ngaanyatjarra, Pitjantjatjara and Yankunytjatjara lands who are experiencing domestic and family violence. The service operates across the Central Desert tri-state region, incorporating communities in NT, SA and WA. DFVS provides immediate crisis response support via our team of Intake and Assessment Officers, who provide short-term intensive support via our freecall referral line. DFVS also employ a team of caseworkers who support a caseload of women over the medium- to long-term, and make regular visits to remote communities. DFVS also incorporates a community programs team which provides specialist support (e.g. legal advocacy), and brings together Anangu women with lived experience of DV to provide cultural guidance to our workers, and to engage in healing and primary prevention work in their own communities. DFVS work from a trauma-informed, culturally safe model and centre the agency of Anangu women in all our work. You can find more detail about our way of working in the Strengthening Community Capacity to End Violence Framework:

ABOUT THE ROLE

The SA Team Leader is responsible for managing a small team of frontline domestic and family violence workers, providing supervision and guidance to caseworkers, project officers, and Intake and Assessment Officers. This role oversees service delivery to South Australian communities within the NPY region, ensuring timely responses to urgent requests for support via the referral line or in-person presentations. The Team Leader builds and maintains strong partnerships to support coordinated and collaborative service delivery, while working closely with the NT/WA Team Leader to ensure consistency across regions. As part of the DFVS leadership team, the SA Team Leader also contributes to the broader management and strategic direction of the program.

ABOUT YOU

You will have qualifications in Social Work, Counselling, Psychology, Community Services or a related field, along with relevant experience in domestic and family violence or a closely related human services context. You bring a solid understanding of trauma-informed and culturally safe service provision, with demonstrated experience in case management, community development, and working cross-culturally.

You will have proven experience in supervision and line management of frontline staff, and you will demonstrate excellent interpersonal and leadership skills, including the ability to resolve conflict constructively, negotiate change, and work collaboratively as part of a leadership team.

Applicants are asked to indicate in their cover letter whether they are applying for the Alice Springs-based or Adelaide-based position.

This is a unique chance to work for an organisation that takes a grassroots approach to community development. You will have the privilege of working closely alongside Anangu families and communities and get to experience an amazing landscape and part of the world.

You will receive a comprehensive orientation program as well as best practice supervision and professional development that includes vicarious trauma, case management and four-wheel drive training. We also provide critical incident debriefing and a range of counselling services to support you.

In addition to this, we offer above award remuneration, salary packaging benefits, generous leave entitlements to care for you and your family as well as a retention bonus. We also provide NPYWC accommodation and use of a company vehicle whilst travelling.
