Position Description

Organisation:Treehouse Queanbeyan Inc. (Treehouse) is a community founded, registered not-for-profit organisation that provides education and therapy services to support families and children up to the end of primary school with diverse needs. Based in Queanbeyan, NSW, Treehouse currently provides services across the surrounding region, including the ACT. Most of the families accessing Treehouse services have their own direct funding through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).  Treehouse uses a fee-for-service model as well as sourcing funding to support families through grants and local fundraising.  The team at Treehouse currently comprises of Educators, Key Workers, Speech Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Social Worker, Therapy Assistants, and Administration staff.

Objective of the Position: The goal of the Speech Pathologist*is to provide speech pathology intervention to clients of Treehouse. Speech Pathologists at Treehouse work collaboratively with others to provide support for children birth to the end of primary school with diverse needs to enable those children to achieve their maximum potential. 

In the role you will provide direct therapy, education, family support, advocacy, and build the capacity of the family and other professionals involved with the child.*

Reporting Lines: This position reports directly to the Director.

Salary: $96,000 - $125,000 (depending on experience)

Pattern of Work: Full-time and Part-time positions available

Probation: 6 months

Key Responsibilities and Duties of the Position

  • Provide speech pathology services to children with diverse needs at the Treehouse centre, in the child's home, educational setting or other relevant external location as required
  • Collaborate with families/carers, professionals and others as appropriate, with the goal of improving the capacity of Treehouse clients and their families
  • Facilitate group programs (Early Intervention groups or social group programs for Primary School Children) as requested
  • Maintain and document productivity standards set by the Director
  • Inform families/carers and appropriate others of the support, information, and resources available at Treehouse and in the community for children with additional needs and assist access to these
  • Assess and write reports including reports for NDIS funding
  • Be informed about relevant NDIS requirements and guidelines
  • Maintain accurate and timely records on each client file, including notes from therapy sessions and relevant information (e.g. contact with families) through our client management system, Echidna
  • Maintain confidentiality and discretion regarding children, their families/carers, staff and support agencies and sensitive information
  • Ensure a safe, healthy and clean indoor and outdoor environment for children, families, staff and other visitors
  • Act in accordance with Treehouse's policies and procedures
  • Act in accordance with Speech Pathology Australia's professional standards
  • Attend staff meetings, in-service/planning meetings and required professional development opportunities
  • Support a collaborative team environment by providing, for example, peer mentoring, coaching, training, support to your colleagues

Person Specification: Speech Pathologist Required Skills (at proficient or higher levels):

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Uses evidence-based practice
  • Establishes rapport with clients, families and colleagues
  • Engages in multidisciplinary team approach
  • Prioritises and organises own work/caseload.

Requirement:

  • Certified Practising Speech Pathologist as per the Speech Pathology Australia

Qualifications: The minimum qualification(s) for this role;

  • Degree in Speech Pathology that is recognised by Speech Pathology Australia

Level of Experience:

  • Any – dependant on applicant

Required Checks: All checks must be current (or willing to attain)

  • Current First Aid including CPR
  • Driver Licence and access to own car
  • NDIS Worker Check
  • NSW Working with Children Check
  • ACT Working with Vulnerable Persons Check
