Port Augusta Hospital and Regional Health Service

The Port Augusta Hospital and Regional Health Service is a large regional hospital that provides a wide range of services including emergency, general and surgical, maternity, outpatient, and outreach services. The hospital has 58 beds including flex and monitored beds. The Port Augusta Hospital also has chemotherapy services and has a Renal Dialysis Unit and a Paediatric Department, both of which are the largest outside of Adelaide. Our staff work in close partnership with community health services and Aboriginal health providers, to ensure that optimum care is delivered to all areas of the community. Whyalla Hospital

Whyalla Hospital and Health Services is a large regional hospital comprising of 75 beds including flex beds and a designated High Dependency Unit. The hospital provides a wide range of services, including emergency, medical and surgical, maternity, rehabilitation, mental health, and outpatients. Whyalla Hospital's Cancer Resource Centre is one of the largest in regional South Australia. It includes six chemotherapy chairs, outpatient care and counselling services, reducing the need to travel outside of the region for care. It is also, one of three stroke services in regional SA, providing specialised treatment for suitable stroke patients 24/7, supported by metropolitan stroke units. Our staff work in close partnership with community health services and Aboriginal health providers, to ensure that optimum care is delivered to all areas of the community. About the Role:

As the Midwifery Director, you will provide strategic leadership and professional governance for maternity services across the Flinders and Upper North region. This pivotal role oversees the governance and operational management of birthing services in Port Augusta and Whyalla, ensuring the consistent delivery of safe, high-quality, and woman-centred care. You will play a key role in shaping the direction of midwifery services by developing, implementing, and evaluating strategic plans, policies, and models of care that align with best practice and community needs. In addition to providing expert advice on professional, workforce, and clinical matters, you'll foster innovation and continuous improvement in midwifery practice and culture. This role offers the opportunity to make a lasting impact on maternity care across diverse communities, while supporting and empowering midwives to deliver outstanding care in a positive and collaborative environment.

About You:

  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and who holds, or who is eligible to hold, a current practicing certificate.
  • Registered Midwife with at least 5 years post registration experience.
  • Experience as a leader or manager in the health care industry.
  • Experience in managing and leading complex projects.
  • Experience in leading services or organisations through times of extensive change.
  • Experience in applying contemporary management processes and practices in a health care setting.
  • Experience in leading quality improvement initiatives in health care settings.
  • Experience in managing large numbers of staff from various multidisciplinary backgrounds.
  • Experience in the use of computer software packages such as Microsoft Office Suite.
