The Opportunity
  • Fixed term, full-time position for 12 months based in Melbourne.
  • VPS Grade 6 role: $138,631 - $185,518 per year plus superannuation.
  • Reporting to the Director, Policy, Strategy and Priority Projects, the Senior Manager will provide senior oversight of the team, providing responsive and strategic policy advice to the Minister and Youth Justice executive on emerging issues and priorities within the youth justice system and leading on critical reform work.
  • Provide strategic, evidence-based, youth specific advice to government and executives on policy issues arising across the youth justice and broader justice system.
  • Lead priority reforms and be accountable for the successful delivery and completion of projects within quality, resourcing and timeline parameters
  • Oversee development of policy briefings, including Cabinet and PAEC briefings, across Youth Justice.
To be successful in this role you will have:
  • Proven track record in providing public sector policy advice within a complex social policy environment.
  • Knowledge of current policy direction, research and issues within youth justice and the criminal justice system more broadly, or the ability to understand these issues quickly.
  • Strong conceptual, policy and analytical skills with ability to analyse complex operational, policy and legal issues
