The Role

The Team Leader – Propagation / Seed Bank Assistant plays an important role across the Propagation and Seed Bank teams, helping integrate and streamline activities between seed collection and the propagation of native plants.

As the Team Leader – Propagation, you'll work closely with the Manager – Production and Inventory to carry out a range of duties overseeing propagation activities and staff, including:

• Follow weekly/monthly propagation schedules and plans

• Direct and supervise propagation staff to ensure work is completed efficiently and with appropriate care and skill

• Provide training and consistent feedback to maintain quality standards

• Maintain and update propagation records, exercising attention to detail and care to ensure propagation data is accurate

• Ensure propagation and cuttings facilities are kept clean and tidy at all times, including tool and equipment hygiene

• Management of the cutting house and plant health, including irrigation, fertilising, weeding, pruning and pest & disease management

• Reporting of seed issues, unsuccessful batches or any other issue that may require re-propagation, adjustments to propagation schedules, or updates to methods or procedures

• Complete propagation by direct seeding, community tray filling, and cuttings as required

The role also involves a range of duties to assist the Manager – Seed Bank, including:

• Complete seed drying, cleaning, processing and storage

• Assist with seed collection and scoping where required

• Assist with the collation, data entry, record keeping and delivery of seed orders

• Maintenance and cleaning of Seed Bank equipment and facilities

• Other nursery and seed bank duties as required.

Key Skills, Experience and Qualifications

Essential

• Previous experience working in a production plant nursery, with demonstrated experience in plant propagation

• An enthusiasm for plants and the horticulture industry

• The ability to complete physical work in all weather conditions

• Focus, dexterity and fine motor skills

• A current and valid driver's license and reliable transport

• A current First Aid and CPR certificate

Desirable

• Knowledge of plant health and disease, including treatment methods

• Native plant and seed identification knowledge

• Previous experience in seed collection and processing

• A horticulture qualification is desirable, but not essential
