Sydney, New South Wales, Australia Orro Group Full time $80,000 - $120,000 per year

Associate Cyber Security Engineer

Locations: Brisbane | Sydney | Melbourne | Perth

We're not your typical Cyber team.
We're collaborative, curious, and customer-obsessed and we're looking for an Associate Cyber Security Engineer to join our growing Managed Cyber Services team. If you've spent the past few years as a hands-on IT or System Administrator and are ready to make the move into Cyber, this is your opportunity.

You'll work alongside experienced engineers, gain real-world exposure to modern security technologies, and take meaningful steps toward building a long-term career in Cyber.

About Orro

We're an Australian success story, now close to 500 people strong, delivering secure, end-to-end digital solutions across cloud, collaboration, cyber security, data services and network infrastructure, all backed by over 20 years of experience.

Trusted by some of Australia's biggest brands, Orro leads the way in designing, building and operating digital infrastructure that delivers greater efficiency, agility, performance and resilience. Our solutions take the stress out of tech for more than 400 businesses and over 20 million Australians every single day.

Our mission? To create "future now" solutions making it faster, simpler and safer for people to access, store and share information, wherever they are and whoever they're with. But more than that, we know that real impact comes from connecting people, not just machines. That's why we take the time to understand our clients; how they work, what matters to them, and where they're headed so we can deliver not just what they need today, but what they'll need next.

With offices in London, Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane and Perth, and teams across New Zealand, and the Philippines, Orro is known for delivering future-ready solutions, backed by deep expertise, genuine human insight and lasting partnerships.

What You'll Be Doing

As part of our Managed Cyber Services team, you'll be hands-on with the tools and technologies that define modern Cyber today. This role is ideal for someone who's been the go-to all-rounder in a smaller IT environment; managing servers, troubleshooting networks, and working with Microsoft Security tools and is now ready to take the next step into a true Cyber role. You'll build on that foundation, deepening your security expertise while working alongside some of the brightest engineers in the industry.

Day to day, you'll:

  • Support and maintain Microsoft Security solutions including Privileged Identity Management (PIM), Conditional Access, Intune, Microsoft Defender, and other O365/Entra products.
  • Manage and enhance internal security infrastructure, including logging, alerting, automation, and system performance.
  • Develop, deploy, and maintain IT systems and services across security, cloud, and infrastructure.
  • Work with modern tools and technologies like CI/CD pipelines, containers, and virtualisation platforms.
  • Document and standardise processes, playbooks, and technical knowledge to make life easier for our teams and customers.
  • Collaborate with Cyber engineers and architects to evaluate new products, tools, and techniques — recommending ways to strengthen Orro's overall security capability.

What You'll Bring

Essentials

You bring curiosity, structure, and a hunger to learn plus a great team spirit and a growing passion for cyber security. Ideally, your toolkit includes:

  • You'll ideally hold a qualification in Computer Science, Cyber Security, Information Technology, or a related field - but equivalent hands-on experience is just as valuable.
  • Background experience in IT administration or a similar technical role.
  • Confident verbal and written communicator — able to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Strong time management skills, capable of managing multiple priorities and projects at once.
  • Exposure to Microsoft Security solutions

Bonus Points

  • Scripting experience in Python, Bash, or PowerShell (or a strong interest to learn).
  • Supporting security environments across Windows and Linux platforms.
  • Familiarity with frameworks and standards such as Essential 8, CIS 18, NIST, or ISO 27001.
  • Any relevant cybersecurity certifications

Even if you don't tick every box, don't let that hold you back. If this sounds like your kind of challenge, we'd genuinely love to hear from you.
