Primary objective

To assist the Criminal and Civil Registrar's by providing comprehensive, accurate and timely administrative support to judicial

officers and clients of the Courts in a variety of jurisdictions. This position is required to undertake travel to circuit courts as

required.

Context statement

Senior Court Officers support Registries and Court Services in a variety of jurisdictions and deal with a broad range of clients

including people from diverse cultures unfamiliar with the legal system.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Ensuring all Court orders are processed accurately, in compliance with Local Court rules, regulations, practices and procedures,

liaising with senior management and Judicial Officers for more complex matters.

2. Undertake the management of a court room and ensure the smooth running of all Court proceedings.

3. Provide informed and accurate advice on Court procedures to members of the public, stakeholders and colleagues.

4. Use the Court's case management systems to update information and retrieve relevant information for decision making.

5. Perform a high-level client service role including in Registries and in Court. This may be face-to-face, in telephone or by

electronic means.

  1. Liaise with managers, judiciary, colleagues and stakeholders to ensure the smooth and efficient running of registries and Court.

  2. Manage the running of the Courts if required on circuits, including processing orders, handling exhibits and providing support

to Junior staff.

  1. Exercise powers of a registrar under the Local Court suite of legislation.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Demonstrated experience in client and customer services including with clients from diverse backgrounds

2. Demonstrated ability in training, supervising and developing staff.

3. Experience working as part of a team and ability to work independently to achieve multiple objectives.

4. Ability to manage conflicting priorities in a highly sensitive, high-volume environment.

  1. Demonstrated ability to positively respond to and facilitate necessary change.
  2. Demonstrated ability to process and check accuracy of Court Orders with superior attention to detail.
  3. Demonstrated ability to use information technology and case management systems to achieve required outcomes.

Desirable

1. Knowledge of applicable Local Court legislation, rules and procedures, or an ability to quickly acquire such knowledge.
