The Opportunity
Council's Young Communities services unit is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated person to optimise the wellbeing and resilience of young people aged years and their families through the identification, design, establishment, and delivery of inclusive, adaptable, and accessible programs. You will be responsible for establishing and maximising relationships with organisations to improve outcomes for young people and advocate for their needs.
As a Youth Development & Support Officer within the Young Communities services unit, you will be responsible for developing, delivering, and evaluating a range of educational, recreational and youth consultation programs targeted at young people, in response to identified needs within the municipality.
Reporting to the Team Leader Development and Support, you will provide information, support and referral services to young people, their families and support networks, whilst facilitating fun and engaging programs.
This position requires 'out of hours' work including participation in evening and weekend work.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage and work with young people that may require further short-term assistance and support.
- Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate a range of youth programs, services and events that address the needs of young people within the municipality.
- Contribute towards the development of policy, procedures, and strategies to ensure the needs of young people are reflected.
- Develop promotional strategies ensuring that programs, services, and events are well publicised across the municipality.
- Develop strategies to encourage participation of young people from a range of socio-economic and cultural backgrounds and young people with disabilities in services and programs associated with Council's Youth Information Centres.

About you
To be successful in this role you will have the following:
- Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Youth Work, Community Development and Welfare or a related discipline with some experience.
- Demonstrated experience in the development, facilitation, and evaluation of a wide range of programs and activities for young people.
- Proven ability to engage young people and motivate and encourage active youth participation.
- Demonstrated ability to liaise and work effectively with the broader community and other service providers within a community development context.
- Demonstrated experience implementing projects and achieving outcomes within budget and timeframes.
- Current valid Victorian Driver's Licence.
- Must hold or be able to obtain an Employee Working with Children Check.
